One day on patrol in South Clerk Street when a horse and cart like that one just outside the then Newington Cafe decided it would practise fast starts and took off on the wrong side of the road towards the Preston Street intersection. Cowboy Constable Sharp, had to chase the horse, the only thing he was really afraid of, grab the dangling reins and hold on until it stopped. It was such a short chase, and I suspect such an old horse no fuss was made of it. Fortunately it was a short distance to my parents home where I was able to go and check if my underwear had to be changed.

I think you're right.  Looking along the A71 towards Saughton prison ?

👍 The 'McCabe' bus stop would later appear somewhere near the mound of earth top left.

Another later the same year.

Coffee shop I think

Is that BofS branch a wee single storey building on the corner of strathearn road?  It is (was) a nice wee café last time I was up that way.

No that was a branch of TSB. BofS was on the corner of Marchmont Road & Thirlestane Lane.

Men wearing cloth hats, Policeman wearing a helmet, open door on the trams and an open luggage compartment on the taxi.

 It's like a different world

The Cotters Tours office at the back of the carpet shop. Must be about 83/84 as the Sheraton opened in 85.

It's criminal what has happened to Princes Street.  One of the most beautiful streets in the world.  Such a shame.
