Excellent first set.

Unfortunately she doesn't have much hope now.

And yes, I would as well.

17 mate.

Slightly more acceptable, and like a granny to Craig Thomson.

Sharapova broke but Robson's just broke back.

EDIT: Nevermind.

Sharapova's boyfriend looks like a right ******!

6" 7 ?

Just means when he falls it will be that bit harder!

17 mate.

Her mum's fair game, though :) (a depressing sign of advancing age that I'm looking at the mothers as much as the players now!!)

Roddick fans should look away now. Your man has dropped the first two sets against Lopez. Plenty of room for a come back and both sets went to tie break so he's not playing like an arse.

They made some comment earlier about him being as famous as her.

Bollocks!

He may be an NBA champion, but he did it coming off the bench and playing few minutes for the Lakers. Just one of those role players, far from anything special, who get lucky and end up on the same team as an NBA legend (like Kobe Bryant).

Now he plays for the New Jersey Nets. The Nets are one of the NBA's worst teams (and always are). Yet he still doesn't start.

In short, he's pish.

Obviously I should make my way down there and show her what she is missing!

So what you are saying is he is basically a taller Kirk Broadfoot?

Poor old Anita Rodnick. :(

His loss in the 2009 final remains the cruellest thing I've ever seen in sport (I wasn't around in 1986); that was his chance, and it ain't happening again. It's good for Murray I suppose - but given Roddick's declining abilities, and what Murray did to him at Queen's, I've always had Gasquet and Monfils down as greater threats in that part of the draw. Though if Lopez ended up facing Murray in the last eight, that'd be a major break for him.

Bye bye A-Rod - but hey ho, at least you've still got Brooklyn:

Pretty much.

And, while I'm not equipped to be the most accurate judge, I'd say he was a bit better looking as well.

I think Roddick is done as a force in grand slam tennis to be honest.

His serve is not enough to see him through matches anymore and he looks like he has lost a bit of pace across the court.

Some more good matches in play as we speak. Nadal nudging along with Gerd Muller and Delpo and Gilles Simon playing some great, great ground strokes - Delpo going a set up with a 10-8 tie break.

Murray ******* pisses me off when he's in this mood.

He beats himself with his childish mentality.

Grow up and be a winner you dour faced ****.

murray is very good at plugging away a break down and turning a set around. i tend to think that ljubicic will tire badly before too long now.

still looks good.

I watched the latter part of the first set, concluded that Ljubicic might conceivably win a set, but hardly the match, so lost interest. Murray in no more than four.

As far as this tournament goes, though: he's not playing well enough. Still a step behind the very best, and two tough challenges to come before he even has the chance of being blown off the court by Nadal in the semi.

it's possibly even kind of you to credit him with being one step behind the big 3. he's well behind them at the moment, although he may possibly pull out a big show at the right time.

They were on about Murray peaking too early in the tournament earlier today.

For me he's hardly turned up so far.

Pretty poor set there from Murray.

If he gets through he is going to have his work cut out against Gasquet, and will need to up it a good few levels to have any chance.

I was thinking about this earlier. Henman never even made a Grand Slam quarter-final away from Wimbledon until 2004. Everything about his record says his level was last 16, but no more than that; but at Wimbledon, the crowd and him being inspired enabled him to over-achieve, and be best of the rest at that venue, if nowhere else.

Murray, on the other hand, is best of the rest on every surface (except maybe clay) and at pretty much every Grand Slam. Everything about his record says his level is last 4 - but can he ever produce the two mammoth performances needed to carry him from that point to glory? At Wimbledon, I doubt it more and more - because he still looks so passive on grass.

Thing is though: since reaching the Aussie Open final at the start of last year, has Murray actually improved at all? He's been through constant peaks and troughs since, but only made the final again this year because his draw opened up. There was no-one remarkable whom he beat in that run - and against a fantastic opponent on fire in the final, he was even more lost than in his other two Slam finals to date.

Every tennis player reaches a point when they stop improving. Murray is 24 now - hardly any player ever wins their first Slam at an older age, and I think he reached the point of no further improvement some time back: probably in 2009 at the latest. He can't miracle up brute power or a huge serve from nowhere; he's never going to be as consistent or dominate opponents in the way the top three do.

I think we're at a point now whereby he can only win one if strange things happen elsewhere in a Slam - or if Federer gets too old, and at least one of the other two are injured. Because what Murray has is good, very good - but it ain't quite enough.

murray didn't make a scratch on ljubicic's last two service games there, which is a bit worrying. he may as well have not been there at all.

he must now give himself a chance of playing on the front foot for a while by holding serve a few times without too much trouble. much more of playing catch up might be goodnight irene for him.

The thing is Murray does have huge serve. The problem is that he hardly ever gets above 50% of his first serves in.

His second serve is pish!

Indeed so. What was it which made Pete Sampras and Stefan Edberg multiple Wimbledon Champions? The two best second serves in history.

Nadal doesn't have sleepless nights over anyone, let's have it right.

This stage of the tournament, all you want as a big gun is to get through, preferably without taking too much out of yourself. Everyone knows Murray needs luck to win a major, but as long as he puts himself in the positions by getting through these guys, it really doesn't matter all that much how he does it so long as it isn't 5 set energy sappers.

PS. Who's the girl in the blue dress the cameraman is loving?
