One of my friends works for the nhs and is off sick with suspected coronavirus and can't get a test!

Its shocking he can get a test on the NHS before one of the workers on the front line.

A vaccine and a treatment are 2 completely different things mate.

Exactly, treatment isn't too far away for the virus, but a vaccine feels like a million miles away right now.

Christ John it was a gag.

Anyone who touches notably their eyes and nose with their hands which have been in contact with a contaminated area are at risk of catching it.

Edit - however what it does show as you say that it has no prejudices.  I'm no royalists but hope he doesn't get it too seriously, recovers and minimises the chances of others catching it.  Royal or not he is still a human being.

Hey, and by him catching it may even make a few more folk who are trying to convince themselves that they are a key worker when they are far from it, to stay at home.

Sorry for not picking up on your humour

Ive been for a wander and its quiet but there are certainly a small handful of groups of 3 or 4 mingling and while queuing outside chemist far too many not safe distancing albeit there could be carers, service users.

Could be a number of reasons why a helicopter in the air but checking out for groups of folk congregating on larger numbers would be a possibility to then instruct police cars where to go.

One was hovering for about 20 minutes near Levenhall Roundabout Musselburgh about 9pm last night.

Scrap that. Corbyn gets up, and his first thought is to have a dig.

Ah, well.

You mean asking why non essential construction workers are still working, risking killing more people?

Raising questions about the real problems people are having.

That's exactly what crossed my mind last week. There is no exit strategy, it's just let's wait and see what happens. Presumably what will happen is that infection rates will fall if we implement a near total lock down. But that's not a way out if this mess. The virus will still be out there somewhere.

anyone who doesn’t know what the exit strategy is clearly knows nothing about the stage management of new pandemics

Perfectly entitled to ask that question. No need to phrase it in the manner in which he did.

Even Ian Blackford and other SNP members, who can't stand Boris, managed to put their points across in a respectful, yet forceful manner.

Not sure what you are saying.

You think everything is perfect? You think people should just praise Boris.

What is the difference?

My understanding was that Sars-cov 2 was the virus that leads/can lead to covid19 the disease?

I've lost track a bit of the terminology.

Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that cause respiratory diseases. The current virus is called SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome) and the disease it causes is COVID-19 (Coronavirus disease, identified in 2019).

SARS is a similar disease, caused by a similar virus (SARS-CoV).

MERS (Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome) is another similar disease, caused by another similar virus (MERS-CoV).

If all the letters are capitals, it's a disease. If they're not, it's a virus.

Poor harrassed staff in Aldi a wee while ago.    Continually trying to direct people to space out.     Mind you the floor markings and signage are woeful.

To be fair the signage and markings will have had to be rushed out.

Corbyn does have an edge to his voice. The others have calmer voices. Guess that's what you meant. Fair play.

At this stage treatment would be a huge breakthrough. We could return to more of a normal way of life. The vaccine can come when it’s ready, we just need to start preventing so many deaths for the interim period between now and a vaccine.

The fake outrage virus is still around it seems

In Scotland.....

Household members of key health and social care workers' families are to be given priority testing for Covid-19 if they show symptoms.

It means that if household members test negative, the key worker can return to work immediately.

Currently, health and social care staff have to self-isolate for 14 days even if they are not showing any symptoms.

Health Secretary Jeane Freeman said the move would have "the greatest impact in reducing working days lost".

She added: "It is essential that frontline health and social care staff can remain at work.

"To help to save lives, we must continue to prioritise testing in hospitals.

"All remaining capacity must be used to ensure that critical staff can return to work as soon as possible."

I'd heard a bit about it in a podcast but wasn't sure how accurate it was.

There's been several claims that progress is being made.

You would need to take them at face value to accept that progress is being made.

That's just my own observation and only applicable to these viruses/diseases. Not true of HIV/AIDS, etc.

Maybe better at testing NHS staff in Scotland.

Still behind on protective equipment

I posted a link yesterday to scientists in Winnipeg who claim they have treatment for this, and will be ready to start mass production early summer time, which still feels like a long way away.

Extremely positive news. The Gov has ordered 3.5 million antibody tests- it will show the footprint in the sand of the virus. Recent studies have shown that far more of us may have been infected than thought - this could prove that. Hopefully available to the public next week!

The antibody test will need multiple units for many people.   If you test before you've had it... negative.    You show symptoms and immediately test... negative.    You wait 3 days or so and test again... maybe positive.

They'll need more than 3.5m.
