The previous single day record was reported on 12 February (64878 / 361).

Centre I am helping out at isn't any busier this week, indeed appts probably 20% down today compared to same day last week. (First jags only being administered)

Edit - across Scotland though 346k last 7 days compared to 330k, 7 days previous.

Ok,so today's total may well include some numbers from previous days.

The 2nd dosage total does seem extremely high.

Data issues yet again. 🙃

Thanks for the heads-up, Detty. It takes a wee bit of the gloss off today's vaccination figures as the GPs will almost exclusively be doing second jabs now I imagine and this may therefore explain the large figure for second jabs today, but I'm sure we'll see how the situation goes over the next few days.

Yep and with it being a GP link to system issue makes sense as GPs will now be doing second doses.

Looking on the bright side, they found the issue now and not further down the line.

I've heard of a few examples of recent AZ jabbed people in Forth Valley region who have experienced pretty grim side effects lasting days.  Apparently there's local social media chat about it being a thing in the area.

At this rate Clackmannanshire will have more cases than the rest of Scotland put together soon

Has anyone sussed out why Clackmannanshire is so high?

You can get half price bike hire , but no mention of any particular covid outbreaks, just good news stuff about vaccinations

Don't know how you manage these walks Ray.

In the trees I reckon.

from work Broomhouse to Trinity (posh fecker not) six miles i usually walk along the side of the tram path to Balgreen then round the back of Murrayfield, Roseburn Park, Roseburn Cliffs along the water of Leith to Stockbridge then up Arboretum Road and home. However since lockdown i now head to Haymarket were i pop into the station and usually one of the staff let me through the barrier to use the shunkie and that usually allows me to make it home before i need another pish. When boozers open back up it's not a problem for pish stops Tynie Arms occasionally Roseburn Bar the barman in there can be a bit of a pain at times and gives me the evil stare. Platform 5 is perfect straight up the stairs and down to the lavvies. Robertsons in Rose Street straight down the stairs so bar staff can't see me lol. High blood pressure tablets have a lot to answer for roll on 26th April.

the issue with that might be second vaccines and people being booked in for their second jab at those centres thus the AZ might need to be there. unless they will now end up having multiple vaccines to cover this?

I’ve heard someone on the west coast has been told they may get a different second vaccine than the one they got for their first.

A step in the right direction if not a definitive outcome, as yet.

Pfizer Inc and BioNTech said new clinical trial data signalled that their COVID-19 vaccine could protect against the new coronavirus variant first discovered in South Africa.

The shot was 100 percent effective in preventing illness among trial participants in South Africa, where the new B1351 coronavirus variant is dominant, the companies said. The South Africa trial was relatively small, with 800 participants.

Yes there is.

The Government pass liability from drug companies to themselves whenever a drug is granted emergency use.

I was reading about it last year and it's not a new thing as it's happened before from time to time, just that it's usually not in the full public glare, unlike covid-19 vaccines are.

And it's not just the UK as the law is an EU law which the UK has adopted, so I'd think Germany, France, Spain, Italy etc etc will all be doing exactly the same as the UK has done in terms of liability.

https://fullfact.org/health/unlicensed-vaccine-manufacturers-are-immune-some-not-all-civil-liability/

Everybody who receives a covid-19 vaccine in the UK is covered under the 'Vaccine Damage Payments Scheme' (VDPS), if in the very unlikely event that they suffer serious illness from the vaccine.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-to-add-covid-19-to-vaccine-damage-payments-scheme

That's not quite the case on the liability issue.  The bit of law that is common refers to the new use of drugs that a national licensing authority is recommending to deal with a specific health threat.  In other words, if the EMA or a national drugs approval board approves an unlicensed vaccine or a drug on a fast-track or emergency basis.  The EU hasn't done that, so the EU and the member states are not liable for damage caused by the approved vaccines.  It was one of the factors that led to the EU taking longer to reach agreements.  Another was price; the EU doses are cheaper than the UK and US doses.  If member states used unapproved vaccines, it is up to them to negotiate prices and liability arrangements with manufacturers.  Hungary has used one vaccine not approved by the EMA, but I couldn't tell you what they negotiated with the suppliers.

Making the most of meeting up on this long weekend. Off to our friends garden today for a BBQ and some beers before doing similar with my girlfriend's family on the Sunday.

Lots of long driving due to no overnight stays but well worth it.

Sad to hear that,I think it’s something that get lost in the “work at home” and “lockdown” mantra.A large percentage of people have worked through the pandemic and are therefore at more risk.I can be in several different properties on any given day and as much as I try to carry out safe practices,I’m reliant on those around me to be doing the same.I’ve refused to enter a few places inc schools.
Sites are particularly difficult as it’s impossible to be “socially distant” whilst doing your job.

No point getting too wound up about stay local.  It's essentially a guidance thing.  They're probably just trying to avoid a big free for all of people travelling around the country.  Stay local will prevent a proportion of people from moving around and those who want to will do so.  I'm sure they're keenly aware that people will be travelling around.

The dentist was going on about if you lived in the highland region, it's a huge place and you could climb different mountains :muggy:

I don't stay in the highlands, I stay in the city of Edinburgh and I could get a fine for taking my dog to the beach at east Lothian.

It's guidance to stay local, but it's still law to stay in a tier 4 area and not go to another tier.

I had just assumed that with it being an EU law EU countries would have applied it/be bound by it.

The ****ing nick of Brazil.  :(  Now they're recycling old cemeteries to free up space to bury their latest dead.  What a state they're in.  I wonder how much worse it will get there before it inevitably takes a turn for the better.  I imagine Brazil is the number one subject for the scientists to keep an eye on.

Yup, been watching the situation with increasing concern.

The numbers are staggering, daily deaths in excess of 3000, almost 4000 the other day, over 60,000 in the month of March alone, and almost all are from the so called Manaus variant, which seems to be hitting younger people in the 30's & 40's age group, it also doesn't seem to matter if you've had covid before as that doesn't seem to be offering much protection from the Manaus variant.

Something to keep a close eye on.

You may recall me tracking the case numbers for children since schools reopened for the youngest ones on 22nd February.  The latest stats show that the number of cases is continuing to rise as more kids return to school.

  Week Ending
Age Group 21-Feb 28-Feb 07-Mar 14-Mar 21-Mar 28-Mar Change
2-4 94 94 107 148 162 131 39%
5-11 226 227 281 384 423 487 115%
12-15 152 114 118 127 131 174 14%
16-17 79 95 67 67 97 110 39%
18-19 177 114 114 134 147 139

-21%

It's worth noting that the above age groups represented 12.8% of all cases in Scotland for the week ending 21st February. That proportion has risen to 27.6% in the latest week.  In some ways that is encouraging, as case numbers have to be falling faster in the older age groups for the overall numbers to be falling, as they have done for the last three weeks.

Is there any information about vaccine efficiency against this variant?
