I'm actually quite surprised at some of the suggestions that have seen people turning up their noses.

Yeah, I do get everybody is going to have different ideas but we are not in the market to be able to pick a sure fire winner.

This is why he should not even get an interview.

Because he made the decision to go to an EPL team who he had an attachment to and who were offering a bigger salary?

Reads to my meagre brain at least, that Austin's after the SD role, rather than the main job at Hearts. Going by his EEN interview.

Likes buzzwords, and name dropping.

I’m not sure i’d want the guy who thought Maulary Martin was a player as head of recruitment tbh.

Not saying he's the right or wrong man but the fact he took a much higher paid job last time should not rule him out as I don't think he'd accepted any offer from us only to jump ship

If you look down the betting list there isn't many names you could look at and say 'they'll come in and change the way play'.

McClair or Wotte with Adkins or Stendel is about it.

McPhee changed the way we play.

I've been really encouraged by the quality of of the candidates that have expressed an interest. Gives me a bit of a lift after the shit-show that was Billy Davies or Pressley last time around.

For something that`s supposed to dealt with confidentially stuff like this always gets leaked out. Press speculation or does someone within Tynie have a big mouth? Anyway all good fun.

When is this recruitment circus over? When is the final day for applications? I am expecting nothing from Budge so will not be downbeat when she rolls out the best candidate to make her look good.

You don't know?

Interesting!

Wouldn't almost every applicant choose a highly paid job in one of the top two English leagues over us?

Would be delighted by McClair but I have been disappointed in the names for the managers job.

For the budget we are on we could be struggling again and end up with the same scenario that got Levein the job.

McPhee could well get the job because of the lack of decent applications.

We've already had decent enough applications for this not to be true. Not applications that are mind-blowingly amazing, but still better than McPhee.

Isn't that a bit speculative though?  We honestly do not know who and who hasn't applied.  It's all speculation by the press and ourselves at this point.

Decent agree but nothing that would excite you.

Shame Sol Campbell got the Southend gig.

He did an amazing job at Macclesfield.

Is there any one manager who will unanimously unite all the fans? I genuinely don’t think there is.  Even if Mourinho was touted, some would cite his negative football at United.

We have no idea who has actually applied unless we are taking the press as gospel. I appreciate there will inevitably be leaks from, for example, agents of managers who have perhaps applied, but how do we know who to believe?

FWIW, I think the club can simply not risk giving the gig to AM, for the same reasons mentioned by various previous posters, notwithstanding Saturdays much improved performance/result.

Very interested to see who we end up with, both as a manager and a SD 🇱🇻

I'm obviously going from the paper talk but you have to admit the likes Alexander and Freedman are options good enough for us not to have to throw our hands up in the air and say "ah balls, just give it to McPhee"

There will also be others in there that we don't know about. Hearts would be a cracking option for a lot of manager, got to remember that. We aren't Hibs for f-sake.

I think the only person who would unite the fans would be a coach that we haven't thought of yet - a European coach with a strong track record and no ties.

I think playing a brand of attacking football would help. Getting the youngsters to come through also.

But of course results.

There could be almost as many that see Scotland and Hearts as an easy way to buffer the CV with European experience and then get a job down south that more then compensates for the 'lost earnings' whilst up here

Billy Davies will decide when Billy Davies is persona non grata or if Billy Davies has decided that Hearts is the right place to reconvene his career as Billy Davies, football manager. In the meantime Billy Davies will continue participating in specialist daytime focus groups for the likeminded.

Brendan Rodgers raised the profile of Scottish football. Gerrard is here too.

I wouldn't normally rule out anyone for the job on the basis of being a complete welt but Davies is the exception.

been thinking about who would be a good fit for hearts and my choice hasn't even been mentioned by anyone so can't see it happening.

he has been manager of the year in Scotland

has a track record of playing youth

has experience of working abroad and England

Billy Reid is currently working at Brighton as assistant and may fancy a go at manager again

don't think it will happen anyway

Indeed. It seems however it’s turned out like many on here said it would. Invite applicants and it’s all the dross, desperados & has beens under the sun. The correct approach would be drawing up a shortlist and headhunting targets, like a proper football club.

Daniel Stendel seems a popular choice. He’d be my pick also and out of a job. Highly realistic candidate. Whether he is on Hearts radar or not remains to be seen however.

I agree with you CT.  He would be my 1st choice and we should be making an active approach to him 1st and foremost.

Think this type of manager would get a wee bit longer than AM or Robinson TBF. Performances would need to improve immediately but I reckon MacPhee would be starting at a disadvantage because of his role in the last couple of seasons.

At the end of the day it’s the results/performances that win supporters over.

Lord Beni of Gorgie

I don't care who it is so long they take an approach in 18 months we will be at the very least clearly 3rd and games like Saturday will be the norm.

Liquid football too!

Daniel Farke is clearly beyond our means, not having a great season to be fair, but he took Norwich from freefall to being a hugely entertaining free scoring team by having a clear plan. I want this guy to be forward thinking in their approach, no more patch up jobs.

Freedman has basically been networking for signings for an EPL team for 3 years.

Not only has he done well at management his black book will be well stocked for us.

I think we are now a few steps ahead of them now on that front

For a couple of years they gambled their cup run takings on wages but I do think we pay more now.
