Wow I did not know that..the football knowledge some posters have astounds me

If you are happy with 2 defensive midfielders in the majority of matches then so be it but for me too defensive

The teams that win do so by scoring more goals than the opposition. Football has moved on as should we

Our manager gets enough stick from some without adding defensive play to the list of complaints

You also need to concede less goals to be successful. We conceded a lot of goals last season. If we concede less and score more, we will win more. The 4-2-3-1 gives the attacking 4 loads of freedom. It also provides cover for fullbacks to get up the pitch. It can be very attacking and was the formation we played for most of the Championship season. How many goals did we score again?

Yes Haring behind Whelan !!!!

...I think not

Haring scored 5 goals in 26 games...I know who is more of an attacking midfield player (even if he is not)

You seriously think Haring is a better player than Glenn Whelan?

Haring is a better player than Whelan...the Whelan of today at 35 years of age

That's who we are talking about not the Whelan of a few years ago

Lots of sides with 3-2-4-1 or 4-2-3-1 formations play attacking football.

Do we need Whelan? Unless there are real concerns over Haring long term.

Still lack creativity in the middle.

There's always a lot of chat about needing 2 players for every position. I don't think it's unreasonable for us to have Haring, Damour and Whelan in the squad, especially short term. I think Whelan would be a great addition, particularly at places like Parkhead and Ibrox.

Haring is better than a player that just played the vast majority of games for a team that got promoted from the championship to English premier league? Unless Whelan legs have fallen off in the few weeks between last season and this one there’s no way Haring is a better player.

I mean I like Haring an that but Jesus.

Whelan would instantly become our best midfield player should he sign. Including Damour.

Probably more so Ibrox than parkhead

And I would always take a player who could improve the squad.

We would be a different side. Bearing in mind hopefully see more than Walker, Washington, Mulvaney and Nsismith further forward.

A strong foundation would be created with Halkett, Damour and Whelan.

Beg to differ. Whelan and Damour as the defensive 2 in a 4-2-3-1 would be brilliant. Add a keeper and potentially Lafferty and we'd be laughing!

My thoughts too.

I'd be pretty optimistic of a minimum 3rd place finish and at least one final if that were to happen.

Can you imagine if we pulled off Whelan and James Morrison as well as Damour 😳

We would take some beating that's for sure

Agree. Whelan would be a great signing. Had have Brown, Arfield, Allan, etc. in his pocket. Brown’s has it easy for years up here. Would love to see hm up against a proper hard midfielder.

This is why I like kickback....Haring better than Whelan. :)

Haring has been a revelation for us for sure....but seriously....

I've not seen Damour play but it'd potentially be the best midfield I've seen at Hearts! I think we've lacked quality in the middle for a long time to the point we've almost forgot what a CM should be doing! Then add Naismith in front of them and 3rd place is a real target again.

And if we get in a GOALSCORER second place would be obtainable.

I don't understand the thing people have on his age. He played over 30 games last season for a team promoted to the English Premier League. And now hes too old to play for us/his legs have gone/not good enough? Come on guys! Ronaldo 30s. Messi 30s. Both shite! Should be looking at youth!

What’s utter pish? You think it’s just a coincidence that Clare, Djoum and Isma, in recent years, have been singled out above other players even tho they perform comparable or better than most?

Martin, Vanecek & Sammon?

Behave! He's 35 not 55. He played 30+ games in the English Championship, never had any pace anyway. He would be a brilliant signing.

Get him tae ****.

If he hasn’t decided by now he is not going to be fully committed IMO.

Go all out for James Morrison instead. 👍👍👍

I’d suggest it’s quite the opposite.

A player takes a long time to make his mind up - makes him more committed to his decision as he has properly thought it through.

I agree.

Whelan owes us nothing, and has no connection to our club. Why would he jump at the chance to play for a much smaller club in a much smaller league?

The fact that he’s taking time to think about this, rather than saying “nah, you’re alright”, speaks volumes!

Not really wanting to weigh in on this particular insinuated debate as it never ends well, but one thing that’s different about those 3 players you’ve mentioned and the others mentioned previously is that those 3 got next to no game time - so people saying they’re not good enough was backed up. Whereas the others have been first team regulars, Isma scored as many league goals as Lafferty in less games, Djoum won a major international tournament with Cameroon and Clare is evidently a brilliant prospect getting regular game time to aid his development as a still fledgling player. All I’m pointing out is the three you’ve mentioned got criticised (but not often angrily I might add) but were not playing, whereas the others get anger towards them constantly for reasons only known to those with the criticism. Because certainly on the pitch none of them have warranted the abuse and criticism they received/receive.

Naismith, Washington , Walker, Damour, Halkett

of we bring in Whelan and a goalie I would honestly think it’s the best transfer window since Burley took over.

Its been pretty exceptional
