Heard our offer and enjoyed a round of golf an hour later

Can't say I'm too optimistic

How do you know the time gap between the offer and the golf was an hour ? :sadrobbo:

I must admit that I cannot confirm with any conviction that it was an hour. Ok I'll change my post to a few hours

Talking of Glens.... Middleton going to Hibs. Not a bad signing

if Whelan was not going to sign would he not just head back home to his family?

You could look at that 2 ways:

1. He is signing

2. He is not and just on a jolly

That's as sure as him signed.

Checking out recuperation activities for an injury littered season / his imminent retirement.  We've convinced him.

Am I doing this right?

True, though I was specifically referencing Villa fans in this instance.

Could be our Scott Sinclair moment

Was thinking something similar.

Hold back announcing him until tomorrow morning so as not to give away to much during the match buildup.

Probably not though. 🤣

I think one of the big things about bringing in a player of his type, calibre and experience would be that his influence could potentially go well beyond just what he does himself on the pitch, and help the rest of the midfield around him to deliver more by freeing them up a bit to focus more on the attacking/creative side of game.

Absolutely this. I didn’t see lots of Villa last season but when I did see them, Grealish and McGinn were running the show - someone was doing their dirty work in midfield and I presume it was Whelan.

Rich guy with no job plays golf while he has little to do other than to take his time and make up his mind.

If he isn't announced by Monday morning I'd say there's a fair chance he won't sign at all. No danger it normally takes this long with a free agent unless he's had other offers elsewhere and he is weighing his options up.

Come on Glenn just sign ffs

Mulling over the offer during the weekend and taking in the match ?. Might suit us as a silver lining announcement on Monday if we lose to the sheep.

Would be a decent enough signing but to me it still hasn’t addressed our lack of creativity in the middle of the park.

My fear is that maybe Haring is out for longer than we expect hence the need for Whelan.

Creativity will come from the wide areas and Naisy playing off the striker.

I think players like Whelan and Morrison will wait till the English transfer window shuts before agreeing to join us. Bigger money down there and easy to avoid having to move the family up north.

Maybe we think we have creative players eg Cochrane, McDonald, Clare who will flourish beside someone like Whelan doing the "dirty" work

Hope he's already signed and this is just cloak and dagger to spring on the sheep, when he strolls out to take command this afternoon!

They're both free agents.

If they are free agents they don't have to be signed in the transfer window.

True, but this actually gives them more incentive not to sign for anyone until the window closes. If other clubs miss out on their preferred targets, there may well suddenly be more offers available to players who can still be signed.

I imagine we will find out more pre or post match interview with levein

Did one of the ITK'rs on Friday who said Whelan agreed to sign not say that registering him for today depended on SFA opening up on a Sunday to register his International Clearance?? If he is still up here I am taking that as a good sign.

No one can deny this is a possibility but if we imagine ours turned out to be his best offer by miles and we get so sick of waiting that we sign someone else, he will miss the boat.  It's a calculated risk.

He has signed. I don't know what the hold up is with this gentlemen. I guess Hearts are in no rush to announce it,  and didn't see him playing this afternoon. In saying that i was told otherwise on Friday, and then Saturday. I'm going to keep my trap shut for now, and make no assumptions on when the news will break now

Thanks for sharing info mate, really appreciated

We’re all just antsy to get our midfield sorted. You’re happy with your source saying he’s definitely signed?

Be announced at 145 when the team sheets in, and I would be absolutely delighted with that

Celtic with Sinclair against us was virtually that scenario.

As long as the players registered announcements are for fans
