Hughes had spent his prior seasons in Australia and India and before that he barely got any game time for Brighton in the Championship. Whelan played 38 games for Aston Villa last season and, by all accounts, had an excellent second half of the season. Unlike Hughes, he still has plenty left in the tank, and would add some much needed character & desire to the team. Would love to get Morrison too.
