I thought that was David Clunie ..... but it’s not - I’m wrong, but having reconsidered I might be right!! Think I’m losing it ....

Clunie was a full-back. I think Bowman played with a No7, although that picture is not that clear, Bowman was definitely a red-head.

Surely that’s a number 3 on Clunies back?

The umbro strip being worn was first used in 1977-78, by which time Dave Clunie had moved on to St Johnstone.

Yet you’re offended by ‘piggery’ which is at worst, childishly amusing but harmless- weird

I’m a proud member of the pc brigade’ (so guess I can ‘go and get ****ed’ 😆) as generally I understand that as referring to folks who try to no longer use language that’s discriminatory...
But there you go 😬

anyway , irrelevant and apologies for going off topic

enjoying the old pics, even though many are before my time 👍

don’t put up too many of the piggery though, brings me out in a rash 😬

Wasn't offended by piggery mate and the Hoover remark was just trying to bring some levity to what was becoming an increasingly tense thread.

Indeed. For example, I still say Hoover when no doubt folk think I should be saying vacuum cleaner. I won't give in to the PC Brigade though, they can go and get ****ed for all I care.

Seconded

And Dave Bowman hadn’t played for

Hearts then - started 1980.

Also that season Hearts were in first division so no league games vs Celtic!

League Cup semi was a night match 1st March at hampen number 3 was  Fraser and number 7 was Park so that’s ruled out!

I’m inclined to think this match was early ‘80s

Aha 😆

didn’t look closely enough at the crowd before but now I have- not a hearts badge in sight 🤪

was about to correct my earlier point about folks recognising themselves in the crowd... some still might though 👀

He played a handful of games for Celtic in 88. Could be the school end at  Tynecastle, not sure when segregation started.

I think segregation must’ve started early 80’s? Guesswork on my part though

Sounds about right. I’m looking at a minuscule screen but often find it hard to tell much difference between Celtic and Hibs fans anyway 🤢😉

You are right. I only referred to 77-78 because it was the first season when Hearts wore that strip and because Dave Clunie had moved on by then. I wasn't meaning to suggest that the photo was from 77-78. The strip was worn between 77 and 82, so the photo would have been taken some time during that period. Short sleeves are being worn and the pitch looks in good condition, suggesting early season. I would guess 13 September 1980. Dave Bowman wore the no7 jersey that day.

I would go for John Brough in front of Gorgie end, probably Celtic fans.

Umbro strip.

"Easter Road's a piggery" was still sung in the early/mid '80's.

Mostly because it was.

Particularly that corrugated bit on the side of their old main stand at the exit of the Dunbar End.

The bog underneath the corrugated bit was very picturesque. Also, the only facility I recall.

A piggery with a cow shed.

Nice.

Their belief in the superiority of Easter Road, then and now, is staggering.

I'm glad you said this as I was thinking that I was missing something and that the word has taken on a whole new meaning. It might, for all I know. When I was growing up on the site of what is now the flats that sit between Gylemuir Primary and Tesco Corstorphine was a piggery. When you walked past there was a terrible smell and you really had to hold your nose at times. The word piggery was used to describe somewhere that was smelly (as in smells like a piggery); nothing more, nothing less. The term, as you say, was used in a juvenile way that meant no harm - it was only a childish retort implying that Easter Road stinks. When directing it at a Hibs supporter they might respond along the lines of "well it's bigger than Tynecastle". Did they take any real offence - of course not.

Like you I'm loving the old photos.

Cheers mate, I've maybe jumped the gun on this one.

I'd only ever heard Rangers fans say it about Parkhead so just associated it with the Ugly Sisters.

Happy to stand corrected though and apologies to anyone who took offence.

One of the most notorious pieces of cheating I have witnessed in my 58 years of watching Hearts.

Dave Provan falling down to get Willie Johnston sent off at Parkhead. He should still, to this day, be ashamed of himself.

Willie Johnston’s reputation along with the baying masses and a linesman who crapped himself, got him sent off.

expect more of the same next Sunday if we're winning as per what happened in last season cup final. Probably Christie who loves to fall down if if a breath of fresh air gets too close to him

The pose reminding me of Lennon and the ‘coin to the head’ incident. Maybe that’s where he got the idea. Play acting at it’s most blatant. And some suggest it’s a modern phenomenon.

The arsehole, Colin More.

I remember him - I was once on the London sleeper and he was in the next compartment - well, I think it was him as a lassie there kept shouting out his name.
