Really love this thread and spend ages scrolling through it whenever I need a bit of cheer.  It's like a photofit of your life as Hearts have been such a huge part of it.

Actually forgot about that Kiosk in the South Enclosure

20201215_092922.thumb.jpg.71048d2cd2536a216ea28ee12000ac87.jpg

That stand and enclosure was a thing of beauty.

I used to sit on the wall roughly between the Homes from Bellway and TSB hoardings in this phot.

Derek Renton scoring against Celtic in the 4-1 win when they boycotted the game over, supposed, ground safety concerns? Fallout from the major skirmishes of the cup replay. It was great being at Tynecastle for a game against them without their hordes being there.

I used to watch a younger Derek Renton score plenty for Arniston Rangers, before he went to Hearts.

And there's a mistake in it = Kenny rather than Eric Black.

I noticed that myself

John Hendrie was a strange one in the fact he never played for a Scottish club at any level despite being born and growing up in Scotland.

Jeezo.  Tough one. I thought second in from left bottom row was Andy Watson. But, nah. See Peter Reid front right. But no points for that!

Sort of thought that too akthough Watson would have been Aberdeen, but I do recognise him.

Thoughts I had.

Derek Mountfield, Steve Harrison, Sam Allardyce...but none of them.

Hearts goalie wearing the same colours as the opposition

If it is v East Fife it would be yellow goalie top v yelow/black striped shirts which might be OK for the ref.

Pretty healthy crowd whoever it's against.

Not sure who is in the North Enclosure - pretty sparse

Robin Rae the goalie had a decent career as a centre forward with the juniors.

I got them all except Lynch and Ford, whilst thinking 'where's Ford?' Doesn't look much like him but it must be right enough (and now I see from other posts that it might not be - in fact it looks nothing like him).

Definitely Ford

This was a challenge for my multiquote abilities. Fingers crossed.

In the picture at the top, some people have identified the second from left in front row as Donald Ford. I don't think it is anything like him.

Anyone else?

Here’s a question

Have we always played towards the Gorgie end in the second half?

I am thinking we must of played towards the shed in the old days

Traditional home end was the Gorgie Road until late 70's but I remember fans used to walk around to whatever end Hearts were shooting in to.

Segregation meant the School End for Hearts fans and usually played that way in the 2nd half

A very young JJ  top left back row !!

Eric Carruthers, Jim Brown and Drew Young (?) in white in the front row.

Must be 69 or 70.

Who is the reserve goalie next to Cruickie ?

Who is the old-looking guy in the white between Jensen and Ernie ?

That's an amazing piece of research, Scott, which explains my confusion.

The most distinctive aspect of Ford's appearance was his immaculately groomed parting, on his right hand side. Your picture is the right way round. The one that had been posted and confused me is the wrong way round, and there is no parting visible.

And what a fine player and great sportsman he was. Quick thinker and fast mover. Pity his team mates couldn't keep up with him....

yeah we struggled in the early '70's, but the fact the Donald Ford got picked for the the World Cup squad in 1974 (probably our best national team ever) says it all - very special player

Thank you, though it wasn't that amazing, as it rang a bell with me. I think I have it in a scrapbook which my older brother kept in the 70s. I believe it came from Shoot! magazine or similar.

I'll see if I can dig out the scrapbook over the next few days as there may be a few obscure clippings in there from that period.

Shoot magazine! I probably had that picture too. That would be the 70-71 season, a mere half-century ago. Sigh.

Hearts have won the East of Scotland Shield by beating Hibs on penalties after a 3-3 draw in May 1989. The players are Jardine, ? , Cairns, Whittaker, Kidd, ?, Moore, ?, Sandison, Crabbe, Wright, ?, Christie.
