Is it not the street the Pear tree is in?

You're right, Barney.

It does look like W Nicholson Street, but the photo appears on this page saying it's Lothian Street and the houses were demolished in the early 70s. I think they would have been along the north side of what's now Bristo Square.

Just round the corner is Dalrymple Place where the significant other was born and strangely enough my Dad also.

The Corner Bar 2-4 Lothian Street and 3-5-7 Potterow

Photograph of a three storey building looking from the street corner. In the centre of the picture on the ground floor is a pub called The Corner Bar. To the left side is a grocer and confectioner' s and a newsagent. To the right a streetlamp is visible further along the road. Outside the pub a group of two men and five boys face the camera. Outside the newsagent a woman stands.

Do we have a date for this photo?

My paternal Grandfather was born at 3 Potterow in 1903.

Looking at the map below, I think this photo was taken from across the road at the junction of West College Street & South College Street.

About from the second 7 (of 277.4), nowadays it's the curve in the road with the museum extention at your back.

Have I got the location right?

That building has always fascinated me, I’ve always had the feeling it’s nowhere near as old as it looks.

My missus was brought up in Drum Brae - she moved into the house when it was brand new.

She'll love this.

First thought was looking left on to Leith Street but it can't be as that's never Waterloo Place ahead.

The corner of the building is roughly where the revolving door entrance to John Lewis is now.
