And that's pretty much the same with most of them, they love the job, even all the pressure, the crap wages, and often treated like shit by the management but they still love the job. I couldn't do it, not a chance and I've often asked the wife why she puts up with it all and she says it's because of the patients, that's why she does it, of course she would like more money, but it's her patients she does it for. Mine's works in a Stroke Unit so some of the patients who come in are very very Ill indeed and she's said that nothing gives her greater pleasure when weeks or months later that patient walks out of the ward, because the nurses are on that journey with that patient as well, they have invested many many hours, weeks, months sometimes in trying to get that patient better and when it all comes off the nurses feel delighted and I suppose a sense of achievement that they, have helped to make a difference and often that's what they took up nursing for in the first place, to help people, to try and make a difference, however in saying that on the other side of the coin, how she can deal with death on a near daily basis is beyond me, how they can deal and cope with that, that really takes a special type of person. They could double their wages and it still wouldn't be enough for what they are truly worth.

Spellczech
We, as a nation are a bit daft and useless... I was driving around today with winter tyres on my wife's car which is a 2003 Toyota Corolla - no bother at all. Going up hills that taxis, useless BMWs and even 4x4s & SUVs with wrong tyres were sliding back down...winter tyres are also great in heavy rain which we get plenty of, so it is not just for snow. I've had them for 7 years using them from start Nov to Easter and they've been well worth the £500 for tyres and 4 steel wheels. I just change them myself, take about 45 mins to do all 4 with an hand jack.

Quote In a recent test by Auto Express Magazine, they tested a Ford Kuga 4WD vs Ford Kuga 2WD, with both Summer tyres (Goodyear Eagle F1) and Winter tyres (Goodyear Ultragrip 8), at Tamworth Snowdome in Staffordshire. They attempted to drive up the Snowdome’s 1-in-7 slope from a standing start, and measured the distance covered in each instance. The results were surprising: Vehicle combination — Distance covered 2WD + Summer tyres — 3.3 metres 4WD + Summer tyres — 3.7 metres 2WD + Winter tyres — 110.5 metres 4WD + Winter tyres — 136 metres

I lived abroad in 2010 - came home at a Christmas (after many delays) and snow was bad throughout (my dad had to help dig the taxi out when I was heading to airport to leave) - and I’ve never seen anything like this. The snow where I am is unrelenting. I think main roads (eg Lanark Road) are being cleared, but many others just covered in layers of snow. I suspect it’s just a symptom of ongoing horrible conditions, and the limit to number of drivers able to get in to drive the buses. Also, cancelling the buses will encourage people to stay at home...which is, of course, unhelpful for people who need to travel, like yourself.
