Violent Night. Not as good as I thought it would be given some revues I’ve seen but an enjoyable enough romp about Santa smashing baddies to death.

Watched Arlington Road last night for the first time in many a year. Fabulous film with Jeff Bridges and Tom Robbins putting in stelar performances. First saw it 24 years ago and it is as good now as it was then. 9/10

Amsterdam on Prime TV.

Got panned by most critics and only made 10% of its budget.

But pretty remarkable performances by Christian Bale and Margot Robbie. It is based on a Trump influenced true story of rich businessmen trying to mount a coup against Roosevelt in alignment with Hitler and Mussolini.

The story is patchy and falls apart at times. But if you like Bale and Robbie, it's worth a look.

Chicken Run - Dawn of the Nugget

Younger kids will love it. Lots of throw backs to the first film and I must admit I laughed at a couple of the puns.

It is listed as being 1h 42m long but the time flew by due to the many puns in it. My daughter wanted chicken nuggets for her tea after watching it yesterday....

7/10 if you have young kids. 3/10 if you are an adult with an adult sense of humour.

" Wonka".

We went to see this today at the Dominion.

It was very enjoyable.  Very funny and great performances from an all star cast. All hamming it up.  In particular Hugh Grant who almost steals the film playing an OOmpa Loompa.  Hes hysterical.  I say almost because Timothee Chalamet really is outstanding. Such a good actor and no bad singer.  I really felt he was linked to Gene Wilder in the original film. Loads of hummable songs which carry to narrative along and brilliant effects and loads of chocolate.  Lovely moral story to it too.

8/10  from me

Just finished the latest Indiana Jones, it is alright I suppose. Not as good as the first ones of course but still better than most of the adventure films that get made.

“ The holdovers “

A cranky history teacher at a remote prep school is forced to remain on campus over the holidays with a troubled student who has no place to go.  Nobody likes teacher Paul Hunham (Giamatti) -- not his students, not his fellow faculty, not the headmaster, who all find his pomposity and rigidity exasperating. With no family and nowhere to go over Christmas holiday in 1970, Paul remains at school to supervise students unable to journey home. After a few days, only one student holdover remains -- a trouble-making 15-year-old named Angus, a good student whose bad behavior always threatens to get him expelled. Joining Paul and Angus is head cook Mary (Randolph)-an African American woman who caters to sons of privilege and whose own son was recently lost in Vietnam. These three very different shipwrecked people form an unlikely Christmas family sharing comic misadventures during two very snowy weeks in New England. The real journey is how they help one another understand that they are not beholden to their past-they can choose their own futures. (. From IMDB)

This was an excellent film . Great performances from the cast and certainly award winning , very moving as well as acidly funny . A great soundtrack too. Well worth a watch at Xmas time .

Its so good isnt it ?  The soundtrack was great too. Hope the 3 leads are nominated for oscars. I know the woman playing the cook is winning all thre pre oscar awards allready. However the Oscar race for lead acting will be one of the most competitive in living memory i think.

It was a little formulaic, I'm not sure it will win any awards as a result, but it was a very enjoyable and easy watch.
