Malinga the Swinga

Enjoyed Copshop on Netflix with Gerard Butler. Few twists, loads of action and decent ending which made it enjoyable.

I'd say 7 out of 10.

Also enjoyed Freaks on Netflix. Story of downtrodden fry cook who discovers she has powers and she isn't alone. Another 7/10

Pretty sure that guy never played a part that wasn't a psycho. Just has that look about him.

He was one of main baddies in The Crow. That's where I recognised him from. Another classic that's still on now and again.

This is a great wee video of William Freidkin talking about what his favourite films are.  He recently died. He was an outstanding director . " The Exorcist" " The French connection " etc  His choices of films are superb. RIP

Thats a really interesting talk from WF - great to hear him explain the reasons behind each of his choices..

Sound of Freedom 9.5/10

Top tier

So many parts of this film as a parent left me with a unnerving feeling.

Not really any action but a great story and really well told.

Shooter McGavin

Boiling Point - excellent film.

My attention span for films isn’t the best, but this had me gripped from start to finish.

Tense throughout, and very impressive considering the whole film is shot in a single take.

Schindlers List

Watched this at weekend to remind myself of what ten out of ten movie should be.

What a tremendous movie , still gets me emotional. It quickly goes from making light of the situation to full on despair. Ralph Fiennes as Aemon is prob one of the best perfomances your likely to see in a movie.

I only have a handful of movies which I would give a ten and this makes the list.

Dumb Money

Based on the Gamestop saga of 2021.

Takes a lighthearted look at when retail when against wall street.

Entertaining and informative with funny bits in it.

Give it 7/10

Would have preferred a Big short or Margin call sort off approach going into more detail of the lengths hedge funds and market makers go to to screw over the general public

yep.  I’m the same and watched The Godfather last night.  For the same reasons you say , these films need rewatched to fully appreciate how magnificent they are.   I wonder how many of the Netflix generation have never seen the likes of these 2 films

Mission Impossible #4257.5
(#4258 is out next year)

Nonsensical plot, same old characters as previous films all making returns for "reasons", it's full of bonkers contrivances, conveniences, unlikelyhoods and stunning action set-pieces.

Tom Cruise rides a motor bike. And runs.

Total brain-dead action blockbuster.

And I mean that in the good way.

Gains a point for being under three hours.
Loses a point for being a Part One.

7/10

No Country For Old Men.

Was quite young when this came out and I dont think I appreciated it nor paid attention for the full length of the movie, decided to give it another go at the weekend, really is a great story with some terrific casting. The suspense in some of the scenes is somemething special.

9/10

Director's cut of Little Shop of Horrors.

Straight up 10/10

Practical effects still look amazing today.   Directed by Frank Oz and the Henson team though.

Still unmatched by even the best CGI today.

You spend the whole film knowing instinctively that Audrey has something way beyond that squeaky voice. And then when she sings amazingly on Suddenly Seymour it just gets you somehow. Makes me emotional just thinking about it.

And that's her having to put on that fake voice.

There’s a version on YouTube of her singing it with Jake Gyllenhaal from a live concert when she’s in her 60’s and she still belts it out. And he’s got a very good voice as well.

Little Shop of Horrors is superb.

The songs are great, the effects hold up, the pacing is good and the casting is absolutely perfect.

It's right up there with The Rocky Horror Picture Show in terms of musical entertainment.
