I am going to just wait and see and I definitely am not going to judge him before I have had a chance to watch him play but i think some one posted that of those 13 goals he score 11 were penalties ........................ I am optimistic though

17 goals that season. 12 of which were penalties.

It reminds me, I remember saying the best transfer policy should be about finding players who are best fit for your system who are playing at teams where they dont fit that system. Basically you get the player right for you and you can save a lot of money as the selling club thinks the player is poor and wants rid.

Barrie McKay being prime example of that. You'd think we had poached him from an EPL team some weeks. His record down south is less than whelming

If we sign Grant will we still be interested in Ronan?  I somehow get the impression it's either/or.

That might depend on whether or not we plan on moving any players on.

We've lost a few who were on loan and some on contracts didn't really meet the standard required.

If we did get both it could be at the expense of someone already here to free up some of the budget or viewed as a replacement for someone who was on loan last season but won't be coming back.

I agree. There are a lot of people commenting as if the only way to improve is to sign players who would be a definite first choice ahead of who we already have. But players who improve or expand our squad at the same quality are also like to improve us overall over the course of a season.

I'm sure that we will aim to sign some players to go into the first XI. But Neilson has talked about going from a 21 to a 24 man squad, so there will doubtless be some players signed who are seen as improving the squad as their main asset.

Like you say it'll be a mix of 1st choice players and then squad players, the difference is that the squad players will be of a level to compete for a first team place, we won't be signing the likes of a Popescu to sit around until we have 3 centre halves out injured

Well apparently Ronan is their number 1 target. I'd happily take him but I see him as a squad player at the moment rather than instant starter.

If that is the height of their ambition against the money they are bringing in then I am not even slightly concerned.

Meant for Grant - As I said above most of our management and recruitment team will have seen this guy in the flesh in theIr time down south. So that adds a layer of confidence.

Re Ronan - if he is Aberdeen’s number 1 signing target this summer - nothing to worry about whether they get him or not.

We need a decent pen taker to be fair. Understand the point but never underestimate a decent pen taker.

We don’t currently appear to have a reliable one and will get at least 10-15 pens a season.

And Musemic

Was there not some tale about him which might be a myth but sounds like something we’d do back in the day

A very good international player called Husref Musemic scored against Scotland. Forget which country it was. Couple of months later and we’re offered Husref Musimic for a rock bottom deal, so we bite their hands off without really thinking about it. Lo and behold Husref Musemic duly rocks up, except it’s not THEE Husref Musemic, it’s another player with the same, apparently very common name.

Still scored a derby winner though

Funny if true I suppose. Could be urban myth.

I'm not sure. I heard from a reasonably reliable source that their budget was set. That the Ramsey money won't change it. It'll still be a decent budget and certainly their wages will be at least as high as ours if not higher. But they won't be adding the Liverpool money to it.

They certainly have the cash to do so. If they are not top 4 then it’s surely a disappointing season for them.

A total myth

the Husref Musemic we signed was a Yugoslav international (I have seen the team group pic with him it circa 1988)

he was also a regular scorer at Red Star Belgrade, I have no idea where this story originated but it’s nonsense, the fact is the guy just didn’t fit in at Hearts and obviously wasn’t suited to Scottish football

I am not saying he will be the next Hartley just an observation , also the defending and goal keeping looks dogs dirt

It was a pretty tight Hearts team at the time too, very steady personnel. Would have been hard for anyone coming in, never mind someone with zero English. I remember being really excited to have signed a ‘foreigner’.

The video is quite old tbh, he's had several teams after Notts, he's not a bad player hopefully we can raise his game, and we could just be the club he falls in love with.

I don't like criticising player's as someone, who believes you can always improve a player / individual.

That is the sign of a good coach / manager.

In this Hearts team you will get chances, with the likes of Barry Mckay in the team.

I was harsh on Shankland he's a good player, just wish we had taken him when he was available for free, but that's in the past 👍

With him Boyce, and Simms gives us good attackers, and options.

I was thinking about this earlier and whilst I agree, the reported wages he was on at United made it too much of a risk for us to match at that time imo.

Given he also went on to play is best football under Robbie, it's maybe a benefit he had that season and is making his way here now. I think he'll be a very good addition, but I guess we shall wait and see.

Grant could be a shrewd addition.

Yes there’s value in 22/23 year olds but we need experienced heads. He has played a lot of games and could bring that to us.

I am definitely not going to write the guy off and yes the better players are still improving at 27 so hope fully we have an environment here where he can do that if we sign him

i dont know why this keeps getting thrown about.

Olly Lee was signed from League two, middle table Luton at the time.

Grant's team has just been relegated from the Championship, he was in the league 1 team of the year and was voted team player of the year - none of which Olly Lee had to boast about. Its nothing like an Olly Lee signing.

Why do people think Aberdeen have more money than us:

Hearts have 5000 more season ticket sales as it goes to puplic sale

Hearts had more prize money last year

Hearts have euro income minimum £4m

Aberdeen have a larger wage bill

Aberdeen sold a player for £5m

Aberdeen need to find £75m fora stadium

And...Hearts have the foundation

So can't understand why people think aberdeen have more than Hearts ?

It doesn't matter a huge amount anyway it's not like us or them are old firm amount of money more than each other. Its all about being smarter with what we do have.

Exactly, if anyone reads the Lincoln fans forum from his season in League 1 they all pretty much say he was their player of the year due to his passing ability and goals from midfield. Although the standard isn't the greatest, it's also not the worst around. We have people on this forum saying that Jamie Walker should still be playing for Hearts, a player that is now playing in League 2 down there and who never done anything when down south previously. Grant has played a lot of games in competitive leagues and racked up nearly 30 games in the Championship last season. Maybe the move to Peterborough didn't work out for various reasons, doesn't make him a dud. You can only look so much at stats. If we were purely going on stats some of us might not have wanted Robbo back after scoring zero goals down south!

its definitely not the worst around and the top 5 teams in my opinion would be challenging Scottish bottom six for sure. Despite the negative press around him, Connor Washington was the same - made the step up to Championship, even EPL but didnt cut it. Could see the talent he had. Some folk cant get their heads round the fact that one bad season doesnt mean bad player. His stats from Lincoln and Notts County alone should be enough to see what he would bring
