Just looking more and more likely now. Rhetoric ramping up.

China, on the river card should condemn Russia and tell Shakin, twitchin, ticky Putin to back off or else...

Putin is not a well man?  Individual, better description...

Part of the problem appears to be the need for the media to constantly have soundbites from these politicians. Eventually, they're going to say something stupid. Too much of today's politics and diplomacy is conducted by idiots for idiots.

Truss has been put back in the cupboard after her inflammatory remarks at the start of all this.

It really doesn't help having these idiots in the west making such comments. We have to condemn and support Ukraine but is the poking of a heidcase who has thousands of nukes really necessary?

Russia are all talk. They’ve been throwing in the ‘might go nuclear’ patter for weeks and weeks now and the west are daft enough to believe it. Putin has somehow managed to create a ‘we don’t want WW3’ narrative which leaves Ukraine to get butchered on its own.

Its not a risk we should be willing to ignore imo. He might just do it.

It’s a balance, though, between not ignoring risks and allowing fear of the risks to let all sorts of horrific things go unchallenged. I’m struggling to see what stops him doing this again and again

It hasn’t helped at all. The US saying they want to weaken Russia to the point that they can’t do things like now, is a red rag to a bull….or a bear !

What did they expect the response to be ?

That was a completely ridiculous thing for the US Secretary of Defence to say, not helpful in any way, imo. Politicians have to be very careful with their words, especially during a conflict like this.

It's been like this for a while now. I think this is another hint that Russia isnt doing as well as it wants.

It could be helpful to Russia if NATO troops entered Ukraine. A quick end and stop another 20000 dead Russian troops and half their hardware destroyed.

It's just the facts of the situation.

It's true its probably best left unsaid. But Russia invaded. So they reap what they sow.

Or the East, remember it was Putin who mentioned the use of nuclear weapons first, when he went on about how many thousands of nukes Russia had, how powerful Russia were, and that was in the week or two before he invaded Ukraine.

Ukraine are going to take that Russian part of Moldova.

Technically and legally, it's still part of Moldova, so that would be inadvisable. Moldova already appear as if they don't want to piss off Russia in all this, but probably won't say anything as long as Ukraine targets only military sites and no occupation takes place. That's assuming that it isn't a false flag of course, carried out by Russia in order to justify opening up a new front and spreading further westwards along the Ukrainian coast.

Not the first we've let a major power invade an innocent nation.

And then had to do a lot more to stop it being a lot worse.

It would stretch Russia's resources and split some of their forces.

A new front could well be a bridge too far for the Russians, but it would also require Ukraine to divert assets from the Eastern and Southern fronts. Given that one of the main Ukrainian rallying cries is that Russia has violated the territorial integrity of another UN sovereign nation, Ukraine can't really be seen to be doing the same to Moldova as it reduces the merits of its case. So, strikes on military targets in Transnistria will probably be ok, but actual boots on soil, no.

Obviously this is purely for Russian domestic brainwashing.

Lavrov said to the UN Secretary General that the invasion of Ukraine is a "dangerous wake-up call for the UN".  Whilst completely ignoring the fact that it was Russia who invaded.  They live in an alternative universe this lot.

But Lavrov didn't get it all his own way, for during his normal verbal diarrhoea rhetoric, Guterres asked Lavrov if there were any Ukrainian troops on Russian soil, the answer was no, Guterres then said that there are Russian troops on Ukrainian soil isn't there, which Lavrov had to agree.

Guterres making it plain just who the invaders are.

Switzerland bans Germany from sending swiss-made ammunition for the Gepard anti-aircraft system to Ukraine.

Switzerland also refuses to allow Poland to send swiss-made equipment to Ukraine.

Simple solution, don't buy any Swiss made ammo or equipment again from them. Hit them where it'll hurt them, in their bank account.

There's very little endearing about that country..Neutral my arse. It's the biggest tax haven, safe haven for bent bread and enabler of dodgy regimes on the planet.

So yet again Russia proves beyond doubt they can't be relied on. Hope China and India are taking note.

Depending on Russians for anything at all far less critical fuel supplies is risky business.

All this will do will make everybody else voluntarily tear up their Russian gas/oil/anything else imports as they can't be trusted.

They can try to flog that stuff to China or India but as it'll be a buyer's market, they'll not get anywhere near the price they would get in Europe.

Russia is making strategic error on strategic error.

And it's all rather fun, watching a large nation bankrupt itself in the delusion of creating a Greater Russian Empire.

I've never heard of The Insider so not sure how reliable it is but I noticed this tweet:

Basically says that the VP of Gazprombank quit, joined the Ukrainian army and says the death of his boss was murder.

Might provide some colour to the strange coincidental deaths of various Russian executives...

Absolutely, by using oil & gas as a weapon will only back-fire on the Russians.

Another 21 Russian tanks destroyed/captured added to the stats today, 30-odd yesterday. At this rate, combined with the fact that Russia is reportedly having trouble building new equipment due to the effects of sanctions, Russia is going to start running out of tanks and other equipment in what is becoming a war of attrition.

Somebody in NATO should troll them to feck, by offering to sell the Russians some NATO tanks, that'll send Putin apoplectic.

Putin will be on the phone to his buddy Xi begging him for tanks, with Xi thinking this is all going to plan, pretty soon I'm gonna own Putin's arse.

Indeed. I would be surprised if the power balance in the relationship between Russia and China hasn't swayed in favour of China due to the war.

Didn't Germany up until a few weeks ago enable Russian procurement of weapons along with France to the tune of billions.

Not bad business arming both sides in the conflict.

Just read that Russia is using a 110 year old salvage ship to bring up items from the sunken Muscova.

I think China was always the senior partner in that relationship, as they had a bigger military, bigger economy, the only thing Russia had to offer was oil, gas and rare metals, all of which China will have negotiated a bargin price deal on, especially now.
