Not convinced these new measures will help at all if the peak is coming in late January/early February and there were only three matches left before the winter break. If you put the measures in now, at what point can you justify lifting them again especially if cases continue to rise for several weeks? A lot of the reason is the World Cup which limited extending the season because of limits to next season's dates. Then the risk of a bad winter. And what if the ban on fans lasts for 3 or 4 months. If it goes up then it means it's spreading through more people. The other markers you mention won't show any increase for a couple of weeks from now. 3 weeks ago when Omicron appeared here there were a handful of cases, usually hospitalisation follows 2 weeks later and deaths weeks after that. Of course hospitalizations won't be increased yet as only a handful had it. Now we are at 1000s picking it up a day so if there is to be an increase we will see it going forward. Hopefully it doesn't increase and these restrictions come to an end after 3 weeks. At that stage the Scottish Gov can make plans to come up with a long term plan as this isn't sustainable.
