It’s your pompous view that Scottish people are somewhat more superior in values etc , that leads me to believe it’s racist . It’s ascribing certain attributes to English

Where did I say that in my post plz?

Stop making stuff up. Thanks in advance.

I'm not. I don't think we'd be like either. I think we'd be like the rest of the UK, only poorer and with even more Scottish flags on things.

I just laugh at how it's always Denmark or New Zealand we'd be like rather than Portugal or Botswana.

Aye it's hilarious how we get compared with one of our closest neighbours with a similar climate and the same population, rather than a random country in Africa that's about 80% desert.

The common vales of fairness,  respecting the rule of law and standing up to bullies or intolerance is found across Britain.

I personally think that's all a bit Enid Blyton, warm beer, the thwack of leather on willow, endless summers and all that shite.

I hope with all my heart you are right though, because right now the country is going to the dogs with a serial liar in charge hurtling headlong towards soft fascism all the while being supported by a very large majority in Westminster who returned by the people of the England predominately.

We'll find out at the next election but I personally would not even be remotely surprised if they all get returned again, which in itself is a depressing thought.

It's not that. I could equally say 2m are estimated to have died after 1947 India / Pakistan independence in the upheaval that followed

But I won't as neither modern or relevant.

We're from 2 different countries.

Whilst you may think that we're all the same, we're not. There a whole host of subtle differences between us and the English/Welsh/Irish to make a huge difference to how we think, how we act, our morals etc.

Our education is different - Similar subjects, different course material etc

Our religion is different - Calvinism, Presbyterianism etc

Our legal system is different - That has a huge impact on how we live our lives.

Our values and outlook to life are different - Scots generally tend to be a bit more self effacing, conservative than other parts of the UK. Probably more pessimistic too.

There's also huge variation in England too. I'm married to a Geordie and she's like a different species to my friends and colleagues in London etc.

For the avoidance of doubt for the uni-troll none of that is racist. Not a single word of it.

I'm Scottish, grew up in England, and now live north of the border working with good people across the UK. There are differences. But not enough to split a country on. In fact the overwhelming similarities are a reason to keep it together.

See, I don't think we are really. And before anyone starts, I'm not denying Scotland is a country/nation whatever. But the UK is also our country, there's 400k from other parts of the UK living here in Scotland, there's 800k Scots in England. There's been centuries of Britons moving and settling over the country. There's companies based here whose business is located predominantly in the South. There's generation's of marriage between,  Scots, English Welsh and Irish. There's just so many interdependences between us.

I understand that for any form to flourish there has to be and them and us narrative.

But for me, we're by and large the same people. The only thing that differentiates us is our accents.

I'm Scottish. Lived and worked in London. Work(ed) with people from all over the UK and lucky enough to have worked with clients in countries all over Europe and the Americas.

There are differences.

Differences big enough for them to be acknowledged and for governments or those seeking to be in government to realise that a one size fits all solution doesn't work as the UK is not just England. If you want to engage the people of Scotland then you need to realise that our differences are as numerous as our similarities.

It’s not really bought for an earner in all honesty. I rent it to help pay the bills though.
Impacts aren’t immediate but as I get older and want to spend more time there then there will be. There’s daft old gits who live there and voted brexit. They’ve had to buy caravans at home to come for 3 months of the year now.

Okay, I'll put it another way. Of course there's regional characteristics and mentalities.

But are they neatly bucketed into or  Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland? Of course not.

Look at Liverpool and their Scouse not English declaration. Cockneys or Londoners in general aren't exactly famous for awareness of anything happening outside the Capital.

Look at those minging huns that @jack D and coke posted the other day, they're our fellow Scots. Feel much unity or affinity with weegies in general?

When it comes to the integrity of the United Kingdom, it's people and our culture, there's much more that unites than divides us, in my opinion.
