It really only means that the constituency in question liked someone else more. But if his party have decided that he's someone they really want in, it's a wise move. Maybe he's a specialist or a big name in the party but just wasnt fancied in that seat

That's kind of a **** you to the voters of that constituency?  You didn't like our candidate....tough we're going to get them in anyway?

Pretty poor that you can lose in the constituency and still be elected on the list. For instance, Anas Sarwar.

I am sure I read somewhere that all of the main 4 party leaders plus Willie Rennie have been elected on the list at some point.

I think so to. Did NS not miss out completely, one time?

Is it? They got whoever it was they voted for, that's the point of voting.

SNP would be mad to take the Presiding Officer role. They will probably give it to Willie Rennie.

That Jardine thingy telling people not give up and get fighting for what you believe in. Except SNP and pro independence voters. Ya munter.

Oh and see if Tory/Labour /Libdems want to play the percentage game, form a single unionist party. Til then, you are single parties and have had yer baws kicked by the SNP. Again.

But they didn't....they voted the person to be shit (got 2000 votes in 3rd place) but because their second vote was tory they get the person anyway?

I do agree with PR but i find there's something not quite right there.  To me, if you are named in the constituency vote, you shouldn't be in the list names.

1 short of a SNP majority.

A very good result for me, to be honest. Pro-independence parties in charge and the Greens in a position to influence SNP policies rather than the SNP being able to do everything without their help. I would just far rather have seen the Labour Party and the Lib Dems being the main opposition than the Tories. But you can't have everything in life. :)

Independence parties look to be in a slightly better position than before, the government has a slightly larger majority.

I probably casted my last ever vote for the SNP. Independence or not, I'll back to Labour.

They were bragging about an overall majority in the weeks leading up to the election and going on about opinion polls.

Tactical voting worked a treat in stopping them getting an overall majority. Absolutely pummeled in Edinburgh west.

Propped up by the Greens again means Bojo can get them telt

But that's quite clearly not correct Nucky.  Both SNP and Greens had another referendum in their manifesto.  They combine and they have the majority in parliament....hence they have the mandate per their manifesto to push for another referendum.

Or am I missing something here?

As long as the Presiding Officer is from an opposition party then the SNP are technically not a minority government as that makes it 64-64, apparently.

Running against Sturgeon wasn’t too clever really.
Has Fraser ever run in a constituency 🤔

Nope, not missing anything. For a parliament that was set up to prevent a majority, they've come very, very close again.

Some of the unionists are clutching at straws big time whilst patting themselves on the back for selling out their principles and voting for their ideological enemies to little actual effect - they still got hammered.

It proves that First-past-the-post is the superior electoral system. I hope Westminster never tries to do a PR. What a mess.

I suppose do countries grind to a stand still whichever process is in place.

FPTP, may get stuff through a lot quicker, but also some pretty disgusting legislation too, that say 55% of the country and some of your own voters think is wrong.

Having said all that, there is a lot more negotiating and agreement with legislation and final bills that goes on in the background that many parties ever admit to.

System doing exactly what it was designed to do, which was stopping a one party majority.

We just need to get on with it and hope that our politicians surprise us and do their best for Scotland and its people.

We can but hope.

SNP gain one more seat to finish on 64, one short of an overall majority.

Tories stay where they were on 31.

Labour lose two seats and end on 22.

Greens gain two and end on 8.

Libdems lose one seat and end on 4.

We'll do it again in another 5 years.

Just sick of all the division. It's constant in Scotland. Indyref, Brexit, Indeyref2.

A wildcat referendum would be the straw that broke the camel's back
