Questioning government is a key measure of a functioning democracy. People should be able hold them to account rather than just blindly accept everything they say.

That's just an ignorant assumption though.    People accepting stuff they're told can do so after giving thought and consideration to what they're told.

Following rules,  accepting information does not automatically mean they've done it blindly or without question.    Making that assumption is the blind,  dumb,  unquestioning rationale.

Can understand why she is worried the numbers are so low, it really doesn’t help project fear.

Perhaps we could go back to the old way of counting cases in hospitals to really ramp up the numbers?

Or we could release some shocking statistics about the horrifying effects of long Covid?

She sounded gutted it was so low.

Long term covid could be the next fear tactic if cases start to drop.

Sounds like you're just shiteing yourself at the thought of seeing/hearing fear tactics.   Doom monger.

Aye there's a risk that a young person might pass it on to their grandparents in the week between catching the virus and showing symptoms. You would need to be bloody unlucky for those ducks to have lined up though.

Is the solution really to lockdown the young?

Its a fiasco now, " Lock up the old" no " Lock up the vulnerable".  No " Luck up those students with their hedonistic lifestyle giving it to dear old gran whos 85 ", bloody mess

I never said there was only 2 absolutes so get off your condescending high horse. There are those that just accept whatever they are told by the government based on the assumption the government is always doing what’s right for them. I’m not saying that’s the only type of person but they exist, surely you can’t deny that?!

Opinionated?? From someone who is  paid to, ehhhh, voice his opinion. As opposed to what?  Pedalling the govt line?? Thankfully,  despite the best efforts of characters like Hugh Grant,  we still have a free press in this country.

Yes inverted snobbery from some posters on this being critical of Hitchens.  Discredit his views if they wish but his character and class ? Pathetic.

ICU numbers remain of the scale you could fit them all in a mini Bus- good and perhaps if we referred to “underlying conditions “ and “life limiting conditions” that would ease public anxiety.-

Sturgeon: New cases are lower than expected

Ms Sturgeon said the Scottish Government was "not expecting" such a low number of new cases, and said the "weekend effect" could be responsible.

She added that she had asked officials to look into the reasons behind the low number.

FFs u cant make it up. Her face tripping her cause there weren't enough cases ?????????  Maybe the lower numbers just might be due to her so called " polices" to keep the virus under control.  She really is a some kind of special

No because she is probably right - that some have not been reported yet so expect a higher number tomorrow

Yesterday you were ridiculing the idea that policies may have brought the cases under control. Can't make it up.

Setting them alight until they blow up.

They obviously don't have the access to the tanks of oxygen and acetylene that my generation had. It's a poor show on their part, although they are a ****ing nuiceance.

  • 122 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19.
  • 12,965 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results.

the difficult that she faces is that her policies could not possibly have been effective so quickly- the incubation period would rule that out- if the cases genuinely have fallen then

1- its got nothing to do with the tightening

2- the reason behind the tightening - the exponential rise in cases that we were facing- has not come to pass.

3- this would make the "modelling" eroneous, and thier actions superfluous and unnecessary, and what we are actually facing being a slow but graded increase in cases that is failing to put any pressure on the NHS, and is not translating to piles of corpses in  the streets, though if the person was big enough I suppose you could have a pile of one corpse.

We have quite a few motorbikes and the occasional car set alight near us, many of them in the woods. I'm thinking of doing tours of them as a sort of modern sculpture park. Socially distanced of course.

Unfortunately they really don't give a **** what anyone tells them, and the Scottish Government won't properly enforce the rules meaning more and more are stopping listening to them.

True.  Even if it is only a 0.05% chance that someone young can get very sick with this IT CAN STILL HAPPEN.

It would have helped if you had suggested so in the first place because your assumption looked pretty sweeping.   No excuse next time though... ;)
