The SG have been sending out optimistic messages, particularly regarding a third of the adult population being vaccinated. Just because it doesn't tie in with the consistently deliberate mixed messages from London doesn't mean to say its pessimistic.

😊

Here WO, NS and Scottish government are so despicable and psychotic they set someone up, why would they care what happens to everyone else.

Or they didn't and they have everyone's best interests at heart.

They should just sell everything to their friends without going thru the proper procedures, like Hancock and Cummings and no one would give a feck.

Pfizer has been given at the RHS centre, e.g. for me.

I would disagree and say that the SG are making it clear that they have no intention of opening things up.  The fact they are talking about going back to their tier system reinforces doubt in their intentions.

As long as they get schools open to hell with everyone else.

Cashing in on a pandemic whilst sending out deliberate mixed messages to a country with the highest death rate just about anywhere is nothing compared to Nicola Sturgeon has yet to be directly accused of, whatever indeed that it.

In what way?  The fact schools must return successfully for two months before businesses can reopen or that the SG will return to their prejudicial tiers system where they overrule the science to suit their agenda?

Might as well tell hospitality to lay off their staff now as there is no hope.

I wouldn't worry Frank. I'm just back from a jaunt down the A1, and I passed three fully loaded campers with bikes and families. Lockdown's over. The only thing they are restricting now is face to face economic activity.

I was in my local Tesco yesterday and a number of people inside the store had their facemasks down around their necks.  It doesn't look like people give a shit any more.  Lockdown fatigue has set in.

A large part of our economy is hospitality so it would be suicidal to have them closed indefinitely.

They've now had the magic potion and think that they're invincible.

After last week, I won't be back in Tesco for a while

A couple of weeks and it’ll be history.

Sorry to Real Maroonblood for the repost of this post.  One year ago today I was dealing with a potential coronavirus case at work and it was clear at that stage this was going to be huge.  The date and this post stuck in my mind all that time.

Is this the most wrong post in the history of Kickback?  I suspect some of Ian Cathro support posts may beat it but this must be up there!

Yeah sorry pal!  It’s because it’s my sons birthday tomorrow and work was kicking off with a suspected case and I was worried I would be working all through his birthday.  I remember the day so clearly and remember reading this post and thinking no way this is done In two weeks.  I didn’t remember who had written it so nothing personal.

There’s seems to be light at the end of the tunnel.

Over 20 million in the UK vaccinated.

Fantastic achievement.

You can add on to that this week.

I was in my local Tesco yesterday and a number of people inside the store had their facemasks down around their necks.  It doesn't look like people give a shit any more.  Lockdown fatigue has set in.

I was in local Morrison's this morning and every single person, staff and customers had mask on properly.

Looked as if people did give a shit as far as I could see.

The announcement follows more good news as new findings reveal just one vaccine shot reduces the risk of being hospitalised by Covid-19 by more than 90 per cent.

Public health officials have told Ministers that the remarkable results apply for both the Pfizer and Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, with the British jab proving slightly more effective.

just wondering the purpose of the post mate

i didn’t judge it either I enquired regarding the purpose of the post

no biggie mate was just a question which you are totally free to ignore

I was also wondering if your term of anti-vaxers referred to the group fundamentally opposed to vaccinations of any sort or the group who aren’t but prefer to make an individual assessment rather than just accept anything offered to them

again feel free to ignore that one too

I don't think anyone should be hindsighted about not realising the gravity of the situation at the very start.  Nobody really knew what would happen.  I remember suspecting it was going to be really bad whilst hoping it would somehow be sorted out quickly.

On a related note... I think if I had known 12 months ago that we would have today's state of play I would have been very disappointed.  6 months ago and today's state of play,  probably quite pleased.  I wonder what the state of play in 6 or 12 months time projected back to today's date will feel like.

Same here, I'm in my local co-op most days, everyone wearing a mask.

I was in Asda & Aldi (Galashiels) on Friday, I didn't see anyone not wearing a mask, everyone had masks on.

Exactly.

I had a year old post flung back in my face as well, a post I wrote before Covid-19 was.......well Covid-19, it hadn't been named yet.

Like you say, most people didn't know feck all about this thing a year ago, and that'll also include a lot of scientists & medic's.

Well, that's what you get if you shop with the lower classes, Frank. :)

But yes, even previously cautious people have had enough. Kids have been mucked about and don't know what's going on. Teenagers have had their school and sporting efforts shrugged at. And working age adults have had their livelihoods threatened or destroyed.

As I've said before, anyone now continuing to follow all CV19 rules are the ones doing the harm unto themselves and their loved ones. Sure, keep a bit of space from folk and I wouldn't be organising any house parties any time soon. But not leaving your council area? Not meeting up in groups to go into the great outdoors? Not having a cup of tea or a beer in your neighbours' or pals' garden in the early Spring sunshine? Aye, right!

Get out into the beautiful country that we are fortunate to live in, and make the most of it. As has become evident, there are those only too eager to restrict our right to do so.

Yes, I agree with a lot of what you say, Jonesy.

I fully understand people being fed up and fatigued with lockdown.  It's good to see everyone out and about, in parks, queuing for takeaway coffee, walking, running, cycling etc. ..all within the rules.

I just hope everyone keeps following most of the rules for another few weeks through March and possibly early April. Wearing masks, washing hands etc.  We really are nearly done with this and from May onwards, I think we are more or less back to normal. No more tier systems,  6.30 close for hospitality, no alcohol, substantial meals etc.

Despite lockdown and huge restrictions on people's liberties, we are still the worst country in the world for deaths. The messaging has been far too negative and the policies focussed on removing all risks instead of adopting sensible measures that reduce most risk while respecting the common sense that most people possess.

The data is all very encouraging and the cases/hospitalisations/deaths are all plummeting.

If everyone can just keep taking sensible precautions for a few more weeks, we're outta this imo.

As Brian hasn't posted the 7-day stats today, here you are. Apologies for any errors - my head isn't quite in it at the moment. To the person yesterday who said that they preferred to see the least infected council areas at the top, I suggest you turn your screen upside down for complete satisfaction.

The numbers are good - a good fall in the 7-day cases stat, another drop in the positivity rate, non-ICU hospitalisations carrying on downwards (now lower than it was before the festive surge), some good reductions in several council areas, and no significant local outbreaks visible.

This came up on my Facebook memories from one year ago. Im surprised that I was even thinking about it then.  It hit me more on weekend of Friday March 13th appropriate date when things really started to go pear shaped. We were out at " The Rat Pack" and it was packed out. That weekend was the last one before I went into hibernation almost for a few months and bulk bought bleach. :) I wonder how many infections occurred that weekend and the next as this period of time was definately the epi centre of it I think.  Oh well a year on and things are hopefully moving the right way.

I read today that the UK had the worst death rate in Europe and 5th worst in the World.

There will be a few countries under reporting deaths, Spain and Italy are 2 in Europe that are being accused.

Allegedly Spain's care home deaths were much higher than reported.

It will all come out to light when this is over

Anyone answer why the three people who have tested positive for the Brazil variant were allowed to fly back to Aberdeen from London before being tested. I assume that Brazil is not on the red list?
