We'd do it a few months too late and then lie about how we'd done the correct thing.

Sturgeon would say after the fact that she'd have done it earlier despite it not being in her control.

Wales would just moan about something broadly unrelated and NI would largely go about their own business.

You are probably not that far from the truth there. 😄

Yeah he’s older friend but his lifeline is the gym which helps his mental as well as physical health . Absolutely disgraceful closing  lifelines such as this really , bingo Halls too are a great place for older people to feel less isolated etc but they have been closed for months . Not so keen on the gambling aspect of it though .

Yes, completely agree with that. The tier guidelines are illogical and target the wrong areas. I was at the barber yesterday and she said not a single call had been made to the shop from track & trace, going back to the re-opening in July. Not one case. She also said any further lockdown will see the shop going out of business. It's absolute madness.

Scottish numbers: 20 December 2020

Summary

  • 934* new cases of COVID-19 reported [+362]
  • 3 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive (noting that Register Offices are now generally closed at weekends) [-38]
  • 58 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19 [+5]
  • 1,061 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19 [+28]

  • 20,923* new tests for COVID-19 that reported results – 5.1% of these were positive [+5,006; +1.1%]

*Testing figures may have been affected due to issues with data transfer from NHS Grampian and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde labs over the weekend. Additionally, it appears that the increased number of new cases today (when compared with 572 reported yesterday) may be due to a catch up of a backlog of data.

Nucky Thompson

Felt a bit deflated with all this shit this morning and couldn't get myself up for the final.

I don't know how I feel now after watching the game. I should be suicidal, but I actually feel more upbeat.

Just going to get pished regardless

Glad you feel more upbeat 👍

I'm the same a bit. Through the wringer watching that. Joy, despair and real sadness at the Marius tribute. Felt nice to actually feel some emotions though after a year of not really caring about anything. I guess it reminded me I'm still alive.

Cheers. Next few days will hopefully not result in a spike as folk go panic buying before Boxing Day. Dont let the result today get you down - great effort but fell just short.

Sorry to hear that, Nucky (that you were deflated, not that you're feeling more upbeat now ). If it's of any consolation, I'm actually reasonably confident that the end is in sight. Our family is going to get together for a big Easter blow-out instead of Christmas and the thought of looking forward to it will hopefully help keep me going over the winter months.

Been there too many times before to let it get me down for too long. I just feel a bit like Sisyphus sometimes supporting Hearts. It does make the successes that much sweeter though.

On a more general point, selling a message of obey the rules and you will go down at a tier is a impossible to sell.

Stirling, West Lothian and East Dumbartonshire you reward for all your efforts is stricter restrictions.

The tiers are done before they even started

I know some folk on here don't like the tiers. I do, although I feel they weren't applied in a fully open, fair and timely fashion. I think the SG should have been adamant in emphasising that the post-Boxing day restrictions will be temporary and that the tiers will continue as is at the end. Otherwise, as you say, they've sold the tiers down the river.

I like the tiers but the governments (both north and south of the border) have completely undermined them with the lit application and also with comments like 'covid doesn't respect boundaries'...in which case surely tiers are a non-starter

Sky News saying that this new strain has been detected in Belgium, Denmark & the Netherlands.

That being the case, not much point banning flights to and from the UK by a growing list of European countries.

To be honest, I felt exactly the same, and turned the TV off in the first half as I really wasn't in a good frame of mind.

To be isolated now for three weeks from Saturday with everything bar food shops shut as I start my time off is truly depressing.

The economy up here is ****ed.  I expect a substantial number of small businesses closing, and bigger businesses won't touch Scotland with a bargepole with people running the country into the ground.

The key thing I took from watching yesterday's press conference was the moving of Schools and Unis to online learning.  Was that the SG finally admitting that massaging their statistics to hide these figures is just not working and they are in fact super spreaders?  Some journalists seriously need to ask questions here to find out the truth.

The UK should be banning flights overseas for all but essential travel full stop and looking to create quarantine hotels for any arrivals to ensure they serve their quarantine period.

Toxteth O'Grady

We’ve had a lockdown and levels and tiers. They might have suppressed levels a bit but it has been a farcical mess.

Compliance must be falling with every frequent rule change.

All this moving up and down Tiers like some sort of grim football league is counter-productive.

People can't keep track of what Tier they're in, when it's changing, what all the different rules are and what Tiers the surrounding areas are in.

Rather than giving areas of lesser infection more freedom, it's just increasing non-compliance in ALL areas and feelings of injustice.

The entire UK had a chance in MARCH to do a full, complete and total nationwide lockdown for 3-4 weeks and really put this thing down.

Instead it's been NINE MONTHS of half-ersed wishy-washy lockdowns with little or no enforcement and then coming out too soon then failing to do another proper lockdown after infection rates soared again.

And now we have a far more infectious strain to deal with.

This past fortnight has seen Santa Boris trying to gain favour with the masses by ignoring the soaring infection rates and the pleading of scientists and experts just so he could allow the public to mingle around for 5 days.

Only for reality to hit and Christmas to be cancelled after all.

It's been handled appallingly in the UK, in all of the 4 nations.

It's been handled appallingly in the UK, in all of the 4 nations.

Like I said last night, every time they've had a choice to make on tackling this virus, they've chosen the wrong option.

If we're going to lockdown then lockdown. Shut everything for 4 weeks. January is a fecking shiter anyway.

See where we are at that point then reopen what needs to reopen. If it can be done from home then its done from home (schools, universities). Its time to stop fannying about.

And Sweden, the darling of the "personal freedom" right-wing loons, has introduced much tougher rules after the King personally got involved and ripped into the Government's lax response.

Right wing, left wing. Give it a fecking rest with your pish.

We'll all need to get out of this no matter what wing you fly with

I bit into a bar of soap in the shower last night.....just to try and trigger some sort of taste.

Nothing. I'm really beginning to worry this is going to be long-term.

Oh.....and its the same consistency as a cheap macaroon bar in case you are wondering.

Try sipping some pickled onion vinegar. Surely you'll be able to taste that

Perhaps trying a vindaloo might fire the senses back up?*

Which thread? The CV thread or the match thread.

Agree with Santa Boris and wishy washy lockdowns.

The whole world would need to lockdown. As soon as we came out, it would spread again.

Vaccine is only thing to control it, now. That's going to take a good time.

Next week we may have approval of the 'Oxford' vaccine

That will be a UK game changer (AND OTHER COUNTRIES)....but even then it will take some time...allowing for 2 jabs by the end of March we may see an impact on the figures and life move to 'normal'....Summer before we truly have confidence in the process and that will depend on those people unwilling to vaccinate as well

Just now lets get the most vulnerable looked after with front line staff vaccinated to give them and their families confidence

Mind you can we have faith in the roll out of the vaccine to the population given this governments failures so far...and I include our FM in that
