It might be a completely different one than before but it looks like we are back to regional tiers on Scotland. I hope it is different, because we can not afford to have a situation like we had in the Borders and D & G when we both went into tier 1 whilst both Midlothian & Lanarkshire were still in tier 3. We were flooded with lots of people from tier 3's and within a couple of weeks our infection rates went through the roof, IIRC the Borders was at one point the 4th highest in Scotland and D & G was the 2nd or 3rd, it's taken since mid December to now for the rates to come back down to where we were before we went into tier 1. In many ways it was the worst thing that could have happened, having two regions on tier 1 with neighbouring regions still in near full lockdown, it was a disaster waiting to happen, somehow I don't see the SG making that same mistake again..........at least I hope not. Don’t believe it’s got much to do with higher community transmission Once again, we come down to the fact that we as punters don't know the composition of the cases, where they are and what nature they have, such as whether they take place in care homes or factories, etc., so we're left to guess unless some snippets of info happen to hit the media, such as the recent prison outbreaks and the bus company-related clusters in Falkirk. I'm not having a go at you at all here, Jambo4050, just at the fact that it would be nice for the SG to at least give us an estimate for each council area as to how many of the cases are community-based and how many are outbreaks within more closed systems, as much as this can be determined or even defined anyhow. I know a few people who were going for interviews there last autumn. Some were even less compliant than me in their daily activities! A mixture of some genuinely being unaware of the rules and some who had a bit of a carpe diem attitude to life as single young things. Yes, they were also mentioned. I'm not having a go at you at all here, Jambo4050, just at the fact that it would be nice for the SG to at least give us an estimate for each council area as to how many of the cases are community-based and how many are outbreaks within more closed systems, as much as this can be determined or even defined anyhow. I agree.

Directed into the car park. Around a 200 yard walk to the building. Show my invitation letter to one of 4 reception desks who confirmed a few details. Directed to a seat in the waiting area (only one person in front of me). Within a minute told which booth to go to. A few general questions about my health from the "retired nurse". Advised what vaccine I was getting and reactions I might get. Jabbed. Asked to sit in another waiting area for 15 minutes. Then offski. 25 minutes all told. He is no doubt justified in showing the mild exasperation that he did. I imputed no drama in his statement, just a measure of weariness which is completely understandable. No reason to have a go at him for that. Yes but we are in an entirely different scenario now ! Vaccinations and all hence my 3 exclamation marks !!!! They all count, but cases will begin to count for less as the vaccine takes over control of hospital numbers. Sorry to say but hopefully soon your spreadsheet will be obsolete!! I'm not sorry at all. I'm starting to run out of ideas for alternative names for the council areas. I don't think it will, however, not quite yet anyway, although it may need revamping with any new tier split if it's not based purely on councils. Vaccinations and all hence my 3 exclamation marks !!!! We are at the *beginning* of a different scenario. A quarter of the population have had their first vaccination. One of the great mistakes is always in thinking that you're actually at the end of the tunnel when you see the light at the end of it. We're in a far better position with the vaccinations then we were previously, but we're not quite there yet and if we act as if we are then it will take longer to actually get there. The spread of COVID 19 IS preventable with adherence to some rules. Some people are choosing to ignore that and putting other people at risk is my point. It is, but a percentage of those who die daily in the UK not from Covid are also are preventable if we chose to create and then follow some rules specific to reducing them. We don't do that though is all I'm saying, despite the fact that we could (in counter to you saying we can't do anything a out those deaths). For example the ONS considered nearly 140,000 deaths in the UK in 2018 were avoidable and in 2017 this was 4.5 times higher for those in the most deprived areas. Could we have drastically reduced that with a year long focus on balancing the haves and have nots in society with the same success as we have fighting covid? Not sure, but we certainly didn't attempt it on that scale or with such drastic actions. Quote I lost my Mum a couple of years ago, ostensibly to cancer or her inability to cope with how it left her. I can only imagine how my sisters and I would have felt if we couldn’t have gone to see her in the different care homes she was in. Yes, it must be terrible for people. We looked good and like we were heading for Level 1 a week ago. Now it's looking more like level 3. It is something that needs to be looked at more closely It could be one company or nursing home for example skewing the figures for a few weeks but if not then just what ? Stats are important but sometimes just a bit more of a look is required......I really would not apply general figures to an area if there is a one off 'break out'/infection somewhere as it does not reflect the whole region

Hmmm... Here is the Edinburgh "picture". The higher rates in the SE of the city appear to correlate pretty well with some of the most deprived areas of the city.
