I assume it is pretty much anyone who cannot get to hosptial or testing place by car on their own. Cannot ask people with symptoms to endanger a taxi driver. Cannot send an ambulance unless you are so poorly you need admitted to hospital. Apparently cannot take the test to the sick people...Certainly this was the case a week ago when the nurse in question got ill.

DETTY29
The govt got a little bit of a 'messaged' kicking today on Radio Scotland just after noon. Health correspondent on saying that when anyone comes out of ICU they need to go through a proper period of rehabilitation. Johnson just cant go back early or he could relapse. This then brought in the Deputy Political Editor, Norman Smith. Now he should be being impartial and I don't know his personal political leanings but watch out for a name* he mentions. I'd imagine however this is a wider feeling among political commentators across the workings of this government. Whether they will go public is another matter. Along lines of:- No proper succession planning. Rabb has no real power. Committee of equals. No deputy prime minister (note last one was Nick Clegg however so May didn't have one either) Johnson therefore was a single point if failure Perhaps time for a coalition of heavy weight politicians to come and help out towards dictating. Notably ex PMs (Gordon Brown directly mentioned) to lead work streams such as PPE, testing and so on which are currently all over over the place. About half an hour later an ex Theresa May aide was on and was asked about conflicts within cabinets and agreed there will be conflicts just now for personal power grab. Not anything new there whether it be Westminster or Holyrood governing parties . My take was without saying so, Smith was alluding that the current government personnel isn't close to an acceptable level of competence. A study has shown that these only account for 5% of total coronavirus-related deaths though (sorry, I've forgotten where I read that), as far as we can tell without extensive testing of all those deceased, so that won't make a significant difference to the stats. That's comforting news, the low percentages anyway. Edited April 7, 2020 by DETTY29

I'd say the opposite. The number of deaths is the most accurate number, but it is not accurate. The other figures are less accurate. We are not testing enough in the UK to have accurate figures on pretty much anything...which is why it is all this talk of testing and reversing the lockdown are utter nonsense. Focus should still be on catching up for the stuff not done in Jan & Feb ie PPE and ventilators. We've missed the boat entirely on testing...Only good thing is that someone managed to get the Govt to start taking things seriously very quickly in mid-March and get the lockdown done, however imperfectly... What is the point of it other than to mislead the public. The raw figures are pretty much useless, to be honest. However, as long as the methodology remains constant, any changes in the figures are indicative to a certain extent. So, for example, if the "infected" figure continues to reflect the number of folk who become seriously ill enough to enter hospital and subsequently test positive, and we don't change the bar for such hospital admissions or the testing procedure thereon, then any changes in the figure are indicative of whether the problem is increasing or decreasing. It's like looking at the top of an iceberg that's growing upwards (or hopefully shrinking later on). You don't know how much is below the surface, but you do know that it grew more this week than it grew last week. If that makes any sense. There are so many factors that can skew the figures but your point is valid. Just very disappointed that a rich country like ours can manage to test so few people. Imagine how much more of an understanding we’d have about what was going on if we could have everyone with symptoms getting tested but we can’t even manage to get healthcare workers tested. I assume you are suggesting that we are going to end up worse than them? TBH i haven't a clue how this is going to work out.
hughesie27
Was looking at Italys figures on the worldometer site and found this quite interesting. To me that herd immunity part suggests we have a heck of a long way to go.

I realised it over 10 years ago. He struck it lucky when with BBC during the financial crisis, but has been unwatchable since then. I don't think it's anything to do with "this government". It's all about Peston

Cade
Even Whitty and Valance seem at a loss for what to do. "We want to flatten the curve but we're not there yet but we think it's working but we're not sure and we can't relax things until we flatten the curve but things might get worse but we can't stay on lockdown too long" Pick the feckin bones out of that shite. Ricardo Shillyshally
Anyone else heard that construction will start up again from 20th April if sites have passed an HSE inspection?

A tough decision - Ideology or life? I presume that many if not most will refuse to be vaccinated in the hope that a sufficient number of other people will be vaccinated in order to achieve the desired herd immunity. But will governments make the vaccine obligatory in order to ensure its success? Will folk be concerned about side-effects (without fail there will be 5g-like campaigns against the vaccine)? Of course, this all lies in the future, but at some point this will all be the subject of the day. Very interesting points. I havent thought that far ahead but I can imagine that any vaccine would be compulsory? Unsure if they would be able to do this?

It means we are not saying anything because we will be held to account over anything we say, especially since it is a constantly changing situation. We will tell you when we are sure. Victorian
We have a temporary head of government who cannot say who is in charge. Everything is decided by collective responsibility. When pressed on the 100k test promise, he ended ny calling it "the Health Secretary's target". Pathetic. Weak. Dishonest.
jambopilms
Again with the repeated questions. Today's made up problem is Raab doesn't have overall responsibility.

Because he isn't in charge, he is over seeing what's going on. He not going to start changing direction, hiring and firing etc. He is a stand in. Just like any other business when the boss is away. Made up problems.
