General Election 2019

The 2019 General election in Scotland is a completely different electorate to that of the 2014 referendum. Getting less than a 50% SNP vote share in Scotland doesn’t prove the fact there is “no appetite” for independence.

—16 & 17 year olds don’t get to vote. (71% voted in favour of independence last time round)

—EU citizens aren’t getting to vote. They likely voted against independence last time around due to Unionists “the only way to remain in Europe is to vote no.” (Lol) Non UK nationals voted 57% against. But wether they will be permitted to vote in a post Brexit referendum remains to be seen.

Indy Opinion Polls can often be misleading through leaving out these two categories. The only true test of appetite is a referendum itself.

No. Having the majority of MSPs and MPs is NOT good enough. ...... The majority of the PEOPLE in Scotland have to agree that they want Scottish Independence. That's democracy.

So, according to the most recent US presidential election...the US is not a democracy?

My point is exactly that.......number of seats alone is NOT a mandate for holding an IndyRef2, like many on here were claiming.

Scottish Independence is a referendum issue, so needs 50%+ in favour. ...... Say on 12th Dec, SNP win 45-50 seats with a 40% share of the overall vote. .... Is that a mandate for IndyRef2??

Yes,

Yes it is.

Edit: At least Ms May decided to truthfully frame Astor's role in history; Matt Hancock simply lied and said she was the first woman ever elected to Westminster.

That honour of course goes to Constance Markiewicz, who as a Sinn Fein member did not take her seat.

BBC aware of being in a tricky situation have refused Boris Johnson an interview on the Andrew Marr show on Sunday. Because he hasn't agreed to be interviewed by Andrew Neil.

This is the BBC covering themselves from a complaint of bias. Every other leader has been on Andrew Marr. That would sort of balance Johnson not going head to head with Neil.

She was a horrendous appeaser.

At one debate in the Commons in the 1930's when Winston was making a speech warning about Hitler she shouted, 'Rubbish'!

Terrible woman. I will say that in any future trip to London I won't stop to look at her statue. Shouldn't have one for her.

Theresa May said  She added she was "delighted" to unveil the statue and Lady Astor was a "truly remarkable woman".

.....
In honour of the anniversary, members of Lady Astor's family travelled to the unveiling on board the newly named train.

GWR managing director Mark Hopwood said: "There is no doubt that Nancy Astor was an outstanding role model for women and changed the way our Parliament looks and acts."

Hope it's fair Mikey. Can't watch that stuff any more. Politicians of all hues should be called out but also commended when they do well. Can't stand the anti SNP stance just because it's them, when the rest are worse at times! By all means have a go but give us just a modicum of balance.

Jo Swinson would press the nuclear button.

Caroline Lucas, Nicola Sturgeon and the Plaid Cymru guy would not.

Labour, Conservative, Brexit would be prepared to if it protected our people.

The final nail in Swinson’s coffin right there.  You could tell she regretted it as soon as it left her lips.  What an arsehole.

She has said it before earlier in the campaign. She sounded almost eager and  you get the feeling she would have quite  a low threshold for it

She’s finished.  Strongest mandate for support the Lib Dem’s have ever had and she’s well and truly ****ed it.  The only party campaigning on remain are the party that will guarantee the exact opposite happens.

As some commentators have recommended in her closing statement Jo Swinson said Conservatives and Labour are the old failing duo but specifically only attacked Boris Johnson.

The only reason nuclear weapons have never been used since 1945 is the deterrent of the ‘other side’ responding in kind.  Without that deterrent or with a leader who has already categorically said they would not use the weapons what is to deter nations from using their own weapons.

nuclear weapons are an abomination but until the rest of the world lays down theirs they they are a necessary evil to deter the ultimate horror from occurring.

Nonsense BJ, it's all about western power plays. A Dick swinging competition, where castrations all round are/is the like/only outcome.

No-one wins with or without them, so why have them.

As it stands only one Superpower has used them, twice! Next time it's destruction for everyone.

Bin them!

No-one will use them unless someone else does, that's ma point. Pointless even having them.

One last thing. We better hope no-one hacks the nukes and explodes them on top of ourselves.

In 2017 when the London Bridge terrorist attack happened just before the election it was thought the Conservatives cuts to Police numbers may have hurt them.

This time Boris Johnson could be on better ground. He had already said they planned longer sentences and he is already going with that last night.

And Boris Johnson will now appear on the Andrew Marr show. 'National emergency'.

Good chance for him to be the statesman and make the case for a Conservative Government introducing tougher sentences. The BBC defers.

Incidents like these do always favour the party seen as the most relatively "tough on crime". Which is unfortunate seeing as how criminals are imprisoned and rehabilitated is something the public is even less educated and more brainless and emotional about than just about anything else in politics, to everyone's detriment.

After all, a murderer on day release helped stop the attacker. It's almost as if none of us is merely the worst thing we have ever done.

How voters react isn't always clear.

True, and there's the whole cuts to policing under May still hanging over.
