Conservative candidate suspended over Islamophobia allegation

News just coming in to us...

A Conservative election candidate has been suspended following an allegation of Islamophobic language.

Flora Scarabello, candidate for Glasgow Central, will have support for her campaign withdrawn by the party, said the Scottish Conservatives.

It comes after a complaint to the party’s central office about the alleged use of anti-Muslim language.

Her name will still appear on the ballot paper as the deadline for removing her as a candidate has passed.

A spokesman for the Scottish Conservatives said: “We take allegations like this extremely seriously.

“There is no place in the Scottish Conservatives for anti-Muslim language, or any other form of racial or religious discrimination.

“As such, we have immediately suspended the candidate and the complaint will be thoroughly investigated.”

BBC have confirmed the interview is not agreed yet.

They are getting hammered online including how their coverage is now biased.

Stating the obvious.

If Boris doesn't do the interview, it'll damage his campaign.

It won't. He's like Trump. It doesn't matter how much of a **** he is, his followers will still vote for him. He can literally say or do anything, and mugs up and down the country will still vote Tory because they're convinced immigration is a massive problem and we need Brexit at any costs.

Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg is estimated to have earnt £7m from investments since the referendum according to investigation by Channel 4 Dispatches

An analysis of the House of Commons register of interests reveals MPs have been in high demand on the speaker’s circuit. Since the referendum 12 MPs have between them made more than £1m on top of their MPs salary from paid speeches.

Dispatches also reveals the amounts some politicians are charging to speak on Brexit. According to one leading agency:

  • Nick Clegg charges £60,000-£80,000 plus flights from California where he currently works for Facebook
  • Boris Johnson charges £100,000.
  • Former Foreign Secretary William Hague was offered at £40-50k
  • Former Government minister Jo Johnson was the cheapest at £15,000
  • Conservative Remainer Kenneth Clarke earned almost £14,000 for 2 recent speeches on Brexit
  • Former Brexit secretary David Davis was recently paid £19,000 for a speech to the City
  • After he left Downing Street, David Cameron he earnt £120,000 for a speech to Wall Street that talked about Brexit

In fairness to the BBC they are giving it the exact same weight they gave the Tory Rabbi's party political broadcast yesterday

It's on the Scottish news section, which is exactly where you'd expect it to be, not in the national news section.

Many if not most of the other candidates who have also been removed, their story doesn't appear on the national headlines, but on their regional page, exactly the same as this one does.

Fair enough J-J 👍 I had in mind a news story yesterday about a Labour candidate having to apologise for using the word "gassed" but it was The Independent not the BBC. NB the word "gassed" was nothing whatsoever to do with the Holocaust but in an (urban dictionary) definiton of "happy or bubbly" but she still had to apologise

The oh so secret documents have been on Reddit since October.

“Except the papers were not so secret, as it was revealed after the press conference that the full documents had been uploaded to online sharing platform Reddit at the end of October.”

Add in it was under Mays government these preliminary negotiations were held and Johnson whether you believe him or not has said more than once the NHS is not for sale to the USA.

I know where your coming from with regards to the Corbyn anti-semite story, however whatever Jeremy Corbyn say's or does is of national interest and will be reported on national front pages be that in print or online, simply because of who he is and the position he holds, whereas there isn't (I'd imagine) many people in lets say Surrey who gives a flying feck what a candidate that they've never ever heard of from Glasgow say's.

I raised the issue for no other reason than adding some perspective.

Boris Johnson was a key member of May's government, he was in the cabinet 2016-2018, indeed he was Foreign Secretary at the time these preliminary negotiations with a Foreign country were getting underway.

Is it a "die in a ditch" commitment not to negotiate access to the NHS as part of a USA trade deal or is it a real commitment?

Looks like Labour's 'trump' card failed miserably.

- Out of date documents - Under a different Government - Confirm drugs would actually be cheaper for the NHS - Leaked a highly sensitive 100+ page document to journalists. And he wants us to trust him with national security?

Obviously after yesterdays catastrophe something needed to be done... but this... Not enough face palms in the world.

NHS pricing and contracts including for drugs are complicated. Things are in place to keep prices down. Things that other countries negotiating trade deals see as anti-competitive.

If Boris does dodge the interview it’s laugh out loud outrageous but good politics.  Sturgeon and Corbyn got hammered and faired badly with bad headlines and he won’t.  Arguing that he can’t schedule it is on a different level to TM refusing to debate.  Something he, I am sure, will point to to say he isn’t hiding.  Those who already hate him and would never have voted for him will scream bloody murder but most other people won’t care that much given he is doing another debate next week.

It would be a huge test of BBC impartiality. If the BBC has anything about them at all they should empty chair him for the full 30 minutes and THAT becomes the story

Hard to do that if his official line is they are in discussion to work out a date.  That would breach their impartially rules if they could be accused of jumping the gun.  If he outright said no then fair enough but he would never do that!

If Boris Johnson DOES chicken out of an Andrew Neil interview we can fully expect Laura Kuennsberg to deputise for him 😂

Presumably BBC don't have a series called "Lying *****"

Boris Johnson and the Andrew Neil interview.
😂

"That's, that's enough music for now lads, there's dirty work afoot."
Brave Sir Robin ran away.
("No!")
Bravely ran away away.
("I didn't!")
When danger reared it's ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
("I never!")
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
("You're lying!")
Swiftly taking to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat.
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!

I drive a community bus in Argyll and a wee Wummin came one the other day and said that she’ll not be voting for the Green Party , because they maybe great with trying to safe the planet and stuff but they’ve no respect for the minutes silence at the football and there flag of Mussolini was a step to far . Lol never had the heart to tell she may have mixed her Greens up.

I think you are getting a wee bit messed up there pal. You need to understand politics better. By the way I don't earn anywhere near £80k. Just for info the Labour Party is not working class and is controlled by an Islington elite. Neither do I think Hitler was a socialist. Words fail me.

Have you read his blog posting?

The anti immigration and anti-semitic dog whistling used within it are quite something.

If Seamus Milne (who I'm not a fan of) wrote something similar there would be uproar in the press.

It's the rules around how the NHS is run and how the UK organises its health market that are in question. That in turn will make it more costly for the NHS to provide health care not easier.

The impact of opening up the NHS drug commissioning boards and patent protections to big US pharma will only result in the increased cost of medicines. That increased cost will make prescriptions more expensive and increase the cost on the NHS of providing the high standard of care it does.

Starved of funding and with government struggling to pay for it, the bright idea to break it up will emerge.

Worrying times ahead.

Johnson's cabinet is made up of folk who have toyed with all this for years. Liberalising the NHS and shrinking the state. So was May's cabinet. To think this isn't all on the table is naive.
