@Radio Ga Gathanks for posting these pics and reviving the thread. Some amazing photos there. Is the one of Mayfield Road looking out of town and the junction on it - to the right would be Liberton Brae and turn left to go to Cameron Toll?

The last pic you posted, is that Gorgie Road? It looks like it to me but the building on the left is putting me off. Looking at it again I think it is Easter Road - to the right would be what is now a Tesco car park.

The Dragonara Hotel in the days when it used to be quite ‘posh’ There was quite a good bar in it too back in the day. Now a Brittania Hotel shit hole.

You see this view while coming into town from Liberton, even better from the top deck of the bus, stunning.

And even with modern push bikes so many cyclists still walk up that pavement pushing theirs, it's a climb.

One of the houses behind the sheep was badly damaged by a tram many years ago.

Brilliant photo, thanks for posting.

Travel that road everyday.

Liberton Kirk in the distance.

Student flats now being built on the right hand side at the bottom, with some lovely old houses bought and knocked down by the developers.

Such a waste.

Thanks for posting Radio Ga Ga

Goods corner at the bottom of the Gilmerton road,  house was recently knocked down for more student accomodation and rebuilt stone by stone in the same place.

A wee bit of history saved.

I believe that is Mr Good who owned the house at the time.

Interesting that the sign says Edinburgh GPO 2 and a half miles. I only found out comparatively recently that here's an iron bollard - still there - outside the old GPO building at the corner of North Bridge and Waterloo Place where all distances 'to Edinburgh' were measured as a constant reference point.I can be seen in Google street view clearly, but I can't get my screen shot to upload!

That's amazing. Really interesting to see what it looked like prior to Waverley Mall being constructed.

Haven't been up that way for a very long time. Are the Go-Gos still on the go? Is the Kingfisher chippy still there too? One of my favourite chippie's in town.

As I haven’t lived in Edinburgh for over 15 years, but return there five or six times a year, I couldn’t tell you if the Go-Go’s still exist.  I would think so though.

Similarly, I don’t know about the chippy.

Sorry.

A long long time ago, it was the best chippie up that way. One of my old pals, sister worked there in the late 80s. Christine. Used to love going in with my mum.

Its changed hands a few times. Couple of years ago i saw it on Just Eat and its ratings were terrible. I mean really bad.

Probably the change from locals to mainy tourists/stag doo-ers so can get it away with it.

It used to open ridiculously early for a chippy too if I remember correctly.

Sausage supper for your breakfast with a buttered roll if you were peckish.

Yikes - where were those houses ?     House builders didn't bother doing the geology/subsidence risk analysis ?

Gilmerton, all demolished by 2000 along with others in Hyvots. Old mines below gave way.

A similar thing happened in Rosewell in Louisa Square, not to that extent but bad enough.
