I wonder if this is where they got the idea for the film Mrs Doubtfire?

My guess 1966ish

He was alive and living in the Grassmarket at that time, didn't die until 1970.

Extract from “Sun” article…

”MRS Doubtfire creator Anne Fine has revealed she ‘nicked’ the name for the Hollywood character from a Scottish bric-a-brac shop where the clothes smelled of ‘cat pee.’

The author was a new mum living in Edinburgh in the early 1970s when she stumbled across a basement store called Madame Doubtfire in the capital’s Stockbridge area.”

“She continued: “It was called Madame Doubtfire and it had peeling paint and sold second hand clothes. To be honest a lot of them smelled of cat pee.

“You would buy stuff and wash it a dozen times but tragically it would still smell of cat pee.

“It was in a basement on a corner and if you ask anyone of my age or older in Edinburgh they will remember Madame Doubtfire.”

“The business was opened in the 1920s by Annabella Coutts, who was married four times – once to a French sea captain by the name of Dofur, which she later changed to Doubtfire.”

Guys, I'm looking for a bit of help.  I'm currently doing some family searches into some relatives who came to Edinburgh and whose first stop was Morton St (road ?) In "south Leith".  I can only find a Morton Rd in Porty.

Can anyone assist ?

There's a Morton Street just of Duke Street near the foot of the walk as shown on this NLS map from the 1910s (now known as Academy Street).

Albany Street has been renamed to Portland Street.

From the previous map link (a bit to the west).

Pennywell. All demolished now, the new Craigroyston high school built there along with new housing.

My mother was at that gig and she still has the programme.

It was also the year I was born and having done the maths and the fact I don't have big lips I don’t think Jagger got lucky that night with her 😉

My Mum and Grandparents moved there, the Green, shortly after it was built, from the prefabs in Pilton.
