Was thinking I know this view (and well at that!) but was looking in the wrong place, thinking it was on the Walk just after it had come out of Pilrig but no, it's Porty High Street opposite the town hall, about to head up Brighton Place.

Nice one, thought perhaps Silverknowes/Muirhouse Parkway. Teh west of the city is not somewhere I know very well at all.

Anyone a veteren of the old 35 ?

The 32/52 circle route 😵💫 I'm sure London to New York was quicker.

Looks like Oxgangs Road North.

I remember when I first came to Edinburgh as a student in 1973, the freshers guide suggested that, if you wanted a tour of Edinburgh, you should do the full circle on the 32 for a 9p fare.

The 32 used to operate the circle in both directions, before the outer circle became a 52.

A full circle was a good way of killing time if you didn't want to go into school. I had the 1 circle worked out that I could get on at first period of the afternoon, do the full circle and then everyone from my school would join it as they finished for the day a couple of hours later and get some company on the way home.

The #32 (and #52) came through Porty but rarely had any reason to use it; from down our way it came from one dodgy area and went to another.

It was quite a few years before I found out that there wasn't a place in Edinburgh called Circle. 😄

Best housing estates, like Restalrig, haha ... was actually looking for an old route map but was unsuccessful, sadly.

Would you believe me if I told you I witnessed a huge debate that led to brief  fisticuffs because one insisted the 32 circle route was primarily only a 32 then the outer circle changed to the 52 were as the other was convinced it had always been the 32/52 🤣

Great photo as it shows how the demolition of the tenement on the corner of McLeod St opened up that view to so many of us walking to the game, especially on floodlit mid-week games. :sweeet:

Could be before the lights were installed.

You can see the one over the Tynie Arms, right on the top-left of the tenement at the corner of McLeod St and Gorgie Rd, if you look through the grey sky. :thumb:

Aye, not easy to see; I have the benefit of a laptop and zoom. Loved walking along Gorgie road seeing those floodlights.

I started in 1969 in first year. The covered areas there held the outside toilets. Never went for a crap there unless l absolutely had to. Also although we played football at break times etc., we could only use tennis balls. No proper balls allowed.

That looks like a brewery building - is this Pleasance/St Leonard’s??

Not sure what the building was on the right hand side but you're spot on with the location. Lismore Rugby Club and Carnegie Court on the left hand side. My Dad was temporarily decanted to Carnegie Court from Buccleuch Street for a while.

The FP set up also recently sent out a school tour video - changed a lot since I left. For anyone that's interested

Dean street Stockbridge.

The now demolished Bedford street is still visible, my home in my early years.

It was always hard to believe that on the other side of the building on the right is St Bernard’s crescent. A different world compared to Bedford street!
