Some brilliant photos, thanks for sharing. Sadly, the thing that struck my most was the random bits of tarmac patching up the roads and looking terrible - clearly not a new problem!!

Edinburgh bus conductor's ticket machine. Never really understood how they worked out a ticket. A click here, a click there and wind the handle !

1977, bus painted Silver for HRH’s Jubilee

Most major UK towns and cities had a silver bus in 1977. Can't remember any golden buses in 2002 though.

I can actually remember being on that bus in 77

Is there any existing remains of this?

I remember being on a bus and seeing Dave Scougal a good friend and two other Scots Guardsmen standing at Burtons. They looked so smart, their uniforms all pressed, and the peak of their hats over their eyes guards style. They were having a good laugh about something, and I thought it looks like a really good place to be. Two and a half  years later I was in that exact same spot with a couple of other guardsmen, just back from Egypt, and having a laugh about something and I thought this is what life is all about. They were good times, companionship, pride, and meaning in life. Many more different, but the same feeling this is what life is about, friends, love ,companionship, commitment, ambition, success and retirement to savour all of lifes gifts.

The silver dial shape on the top of machine rotated left and right allowing you to set the what the fare stage was, along with setting the ticket cost.

What an amazing photo! Never seen this before. Any idea what year? Brought up in Watson crescent so everthing here very familiar. Think I can make out the library which was built 1940. It all hadn't changed much when I was a bairn in early 60s.

Can’t see the year on the website I got it from.

Never understood the fare stage. Used to have them on the tickets when there were no conductors and on the bus stops but meant nothing to me. The inspector knew what he was looking at when he came on and could work out if you paid the right money.

Strange looking bus (4 doors) can’t remember this type

I do.

It was early sixties.

You went in the rear door 😀and the conductor was sitting at a table.

This didn't last long.

I'm sure it was just a demonstrator.
