That photo looks like it was taken from the railway bridge on Crewe Road North.

But I've been mistaken before with both of them lol

I was never in Powderhall. Waited outside it for my mum coming out of the backshift in Rowntrees but never got into the stadium.

I can mind the sounds and smells while we waited. Would have loved, as a kid, to have went into the speedway. Not too fussy about the dogs....

Is that old Meadowbank?

It's down as where St Bernard's used to play but I think it looks like Powderhall

Thanks. It is a part of Edinburgh I am not too familiar with. Google says that St Bernards played at the Royal Gymnasium Ground and on maps it looks like it was where King George V Park is now. If that is right (or wrong) I have learned something new today.

My father played there for St Bernards. My mother went to watch him one game and hears a man say kick the bloody ball Jimmy dinnae nurse it. It seems Jimmy was either guilty of nursing the ball, or when not kicking or hitting other players hence his regular suspensions.

I think its likely to be Meadowbank with the tenements being in the background. If it was Powderhall from that angle of the photo the tenements would be in the position of Warriston cemetery.

I believe it's the area of wasteground to the immediate west of the Scotland Street park.  Those railcars would exit under Rodney Street.

The building middle right of the picture is the corner of Dundonald street and royal circus.

That has to be Royal Crescent

What's on the other side of those trees now where St Bernard's ground was ?

I used this one. I think they're a bit hit or miss and the more variations / detail in the photo, the better the result. If anyone can suggest a better one....

I actually think you’d be surprised at how little edinburgh city centre has changed.

I grew up in Fountainbridge, not quite the city centre but the changes there and Morrision Street are massive, don't think my brother who's been in South Africa for about 40 years would recognise the place.

Trees on the hill at Bonaly have hardly changed. Any ideas when that was taken?

My papa was the head mechanic for Martins for years. They gave him a watch when he retired which my older brother now has in his possession. Classy little engraving on the back to mark his service.

I remember all these buildings (sand stone) getting sand blasted in the seventies.
