Worked there in 1977 on a six month student placement. Then again in 1980 during the Trades holidays when the place closed for the holidays. Chipping ink off printing machines is a thankless task but was well paid

When we moved to Wester Broom my wife got a job as a typist at William Thyne. She used to walk to work and home every day. The guys in the office laughed at her because when she was typing she always sang, I believe she was told to do that at school when she was learning to type, Thynes was her first typing job in years so she used the old school trick to help herself. I think they probably had extra patience with her because she was a Canadian immigrant to Edinburgh.

Aye, when did that stop being a thing?

As a kid you always knew which ones you could pet, and which ones would chew your face off for your 10p mixture.
