A lone Nazi bomber, presumably targeting the docks at Leith, or perhaps a secondary target of the massive Munro textile factory (which made parachutes and uniforms among other such wartime materials), dropped a single stick of 4 bombs whilst flying out to sea and back to base. The first hit the (luckily empty) air-raid shelter of the factory. The second demolished one corner of the ancient Craigentinny Castle, killing the groundskeeper who lived there.
