Some, sorry most of the comments below this news item are appalling.  What has happened to the UK? It takes a special kind of idiot to be championing a  possible loss of their civil rights and liberties.

And that, is the fault of the Westminster system.

Peoples interest has been eroded by the ridiculous voting system and the gravy train ethos of most politicians in that sithole.

You honestly think things would be better if MPs had even less connection with their constituents with proportional representation?

People care more about cost of living than whether Sir Norman Fry MP resigned from the cabinet.

I've found who Rosie Holt models her Tory MP caricature on.

I saw her being described on twitter as 'a junior barrister with 10 years at the bar who couldn't advise the government on parking'

She's there to say yes to Spaffer and be damned with the legal consequences.

Another one promoted way beyond their skill level, just like Raab, Truss, Dorries, Patel, all of them really.

Yes, you honestly think things are better with someone else's electorate doing our thinking for us?

Anyone willing to take the job should immediately have their own integrity questioned!! This has gone way beyond tawdry.

It's incredible that the PM has not been taken to task by his own party, this is sickening and an indictment of our piss poor parliamentary (Westminster) procedures & protocols.

The place needs gutting!

Goes without saying that Johnston should be gone.

Unfortunately it's no longer incredible.  It's the direction they've been on for a number of years now.  Power corrupts and they have now been in power for long enough for the sole purpose to exist to simply remain in power as a continuation of getting something for themselves.  Every element of their hierarchy and structure gets something they want out of the equation.  Cabinet ministers,  junior ministers,  aides and advisers all get their government payroll positions,  additional pay and perks.  Backbench MPs get to remain in their seats with the substantial pay and expenses,  as well as the various outside interests they hold that are often achieved due to their status as serving MPs.  There is still the ongoing ideological agenda of Brexit and the UK's current and future relationship with the EU.  Many of these people are kept onside due to the government's confrontational,  obstructive,  almost nihilistic attitude towards the EU and the international treaty obligations the UK has willingly entered into.  Which in itself is perpetuated for the purpose of electioneering.

The Tory party has become a self fulfilling,  perpetually recycling,  hollowed out shell.  Devoid of interest in the improvement of the standard of living.  Devoid of any moral or ethical direction.  A rogue operator on the international stage.

The latest group-phrase they use is to describe everything as a surprise and/or disappointing.  They're all at it.

I've seen it suggested that Boris was intent on imposing tariffs to protect the steel industry which would be in breach of WTO arrangements. Those would be the same WTO arrangements that BoJo believed to be a panacea in the absence of a free trade agreement with the EU.

Another slant on it is connected with Greensill, which sought government funding to support its loans  to the steel industry.

I'm unsure why such a policy falls under the remit of an ethic's adviser unless, as may be true, BoJo asked if deliberately breaking WTO rules would be deemed a violation of the ministerial code.

Sounds like the plan was to force a resignation in response to this guy's previous public utterances. Clear as day.

Lord Geidt was clearly some kind of 'left leaning' ex-royal private secretary / diplomat / Right Honourable Lord.

a replacement would be folly - it'd be a coin toss between whether new appointee or BoJo would be out on the street first.

Fairness , now there is a dilemma, Tories and the ETon Mess dont do fairness.

Boris is marking his own homework, he is a dictator but doing it in a snidey , its other people's fault kinda way.

Priti Patel  is also on the verge of being  the female form of Boris.Equally immoral and devoid of any human empathy or compassion.

The fact that Spaffer's reply to Geidt included a bit that appears to rationalise the tariffs issue as him merely seeking advice regarding deliberately breaking WTO rules to further a corrupt business/funding transaction shouts volumes about his relationship with his position,  responsibilites,  obligations,  as well as probity and integrity.

In other words... what's your advice on me choosing to engage in corruption by breaking the law?

He clearly believes he's entitled to do things that are illegal,  unethical and undemocratic.  He's not likely to recognise he's not entitled to a blank cheque.

He and his gang need to be erased from public life.
