To be fair, holiday pay is paid by the employer out of their incomd and not by the state. Speak to yours.

Let's be honest how many self employed people declare all their earnings? How many do a bit of cash in hand work?.

Then they have the cheeck to moan about NI.

I'm self employed. Yes it absolutely happens, I do it with any tips I get and my mate is a self-employed Gardner with much of his payments cash in hand, grass-cutting in particular.

Also self-employed peeps can write amazing stuff against Income Tax. It's not surprising that they mysteriously only earn ?11000 per year in the tax return that is!

If there's one thing the Tories are good at its telling porkies.

That and kicking the poor .

This latest ploy of raising NI contributions for SE probably means they have run out of unemployed and sick people to mug . Bet they don't have the guts to go through with it. Instead they will look for another soft target .

They are a vile collection of human beings

the party of the greedy and selfish.

Reading the OP again it's pretty clear.

I accept they have broken their manifesto pledge but I don't see it as particularly unfair in terms of equitable tax burden. I think that covers both his points.

The VAT scam is to make it cheaper for the customer as the self employed person doesn't keep the VAT. It's the Treasury, i.e. the taxpayer who get cheated in this case.

Defo the Tories are causing panic. They branded themselves as a party of opposition which seems to be working, but we will see once Brexit gets going.

But beware, you will be second up against the wall when the executions start.

I think Social Justice is a worthwhile cause and I'd be prepared to pay more tax to achieve it. SNP didn't take the opportunity to do that so they are, Tories.

Social Justice to far too many means they can sit on their arse sponging of the state, I'm all for looking after the people who need it and am perfectly happy to pay taxes towards it.

Put me on your execution list. But given that you won't vote Tory anyway then I'm pretty certain you didn't read their Manifesto in the first place, so you weren't lied to.

Anyone who did vote Tory based on the Manifesto was though, so it's Tory voters who were lied to.

Same here. There is of course a limit to it but if for example the Scottish Govt raised taxes to pay for a sensible transparent social policy then I'm for it.

But they didn't.

The number of unemployed Scots and the amount of foreign labour being employed tells you that a lot of people need a kick in the arse to look after themselves.

If we had a thread for every promise/pledge our governments hadn't followed through on the forum would be full of these crap threads.

As it stands we're having threads pop up left right and centre and the shed's turning into the terrace with certain posters hell bent on stirring up shit whilst giving it the 'look at me'.

Sad as ****.

It's easy to say self employed don't declare all their earnings but loads of people are "self employed" so that their actual employers don't have responsibility.

Link to comment

It's unfortunate but sometimes you can't always keep the promises you make. Especially when keeping them is to the detriment of others. In this case removing the disparity in NI and making everyone pay the same makes total sense.

The government (all governments) need to clamp down hard on tax evasion. Rarely has any government made any meaningful attempt to clamp down.

So if the self employed want to pay less tax than those on PAYE will they accept less access to the services that tax pays for, healthcare, education etc?

Don't think I have ever employed a Self Employed person to do anything. Maybe I have and I just can't remember. Either way it would be that rare an occurance that I would never think to say that.

Most self employed people don't actually pay VAT anyway.

BTW wasn't a bitchy post. I am sure I am not the only person to ever suggest that the self employed don't declare everything they earn.

If you care to look at my previous posts you would see that I have repeatedly stated I'm happy to pay more tax to fund a proper social system.

But you just make an assumption that I am lying.

But crack on with your stupid assumptions.

I'm not questioning your interest in seeing a proper social system being funded, I would question you getting behind a SNP policy, especially one proposed through additional taxation.

Why? I am interested in the principle. Which party introduces it is irrelevant to me.

And also note I previously posted that I'm happy to vote for SNP to represent me at Westminster as the MP Calum Mcaig, is doing a good job. I couldn't care less if every MP at Westminster is SNP as long as they do what they were elected for, to represent their Constituencies

It's Indy that I object to.

Fair enough, I stand corrected. Had you pinned with the 'anyone but the SNP at all costs' crowd.

Nae probs. Interestingly it's possibly not in the SNPs interest to do well at Westminster because peeps like me may be happy for SNP to represent them at Westminster and if they do that well then less reason to go for Indy.

This is why imo the SNP get higher voter share in elections when compared to the Indy percentage.

Imo

They were voted down by the other parties, but then, you already knew that.

?Direct elections to Health Boards to give local people a say? - didn't happen

?2 hours of PE per week, free use of council swimming centres and a moratorium on the sale of playing fields?  - didn't happen

?Life Begins Health checks for those over 40? - ended in 2014

?We will set a target that no patient should wait longer than 18 weeks from GP referral to treatment by the end of 2011.?  - nope

?Presumption against the centralisation of core hospital services to protect local access to healthcare? - nope

?Delivery of a 50% increase in free nursery education for three and four year olds, smaller class sizes starting with a reduction in the first three years of primary education to 18 or less.? - nope

I could go on, with many of the SNP manifesto pledges.

The SNP have been a disaster as a government.  And continue to lie.

Can't they reintroduce? Personally I think the Council Tax is fairly decent anyway. It's based on house value so reasonably progressive.

What's the best alternative?
