The place needs gutting! Goes without saying that Johnston should be gone. Unfortunately it's no longer incredible. It's the direction they've been on for a number of years now. Power corrupts and they have now been in power for long enough for the sole purpose to exist to simply remain in power as a continuation of getting something for themselves. Every element of their hierarchy and structure gets something they want out of the equation. Cabinet ministers, junior ministers, aides and advisers all get their government payroll positions, additional pay and perks. Backbench MPs get to remain in their seats with the substantial pay and expenses, as well as the various outside interests they hold that are often achieved due to their status as serving MPs. There is still the ongoing ideological agenda of Brexit and the UK's current and future relationship with the EU. Many of these people are kept onside due to the government's confrontational, obstructive, almost nihilistic attitude towards the EU and the international treaty obligations the UK has willingly entered into. Which in itself is perpetuated for the purpose of electioneering. The Tory party has become a self fulfilling, perpetually recycling, hollowed out shell. Devoid of interest in the improvement of the standard of living. Devoid of any moral or ethical direction. A rogue operator on the international stage. I've seen it suggested that Boris was intent on imposing tariffs to protect the steel industry which would be in breach of WTO arrangements. Those would be the same WTO arrangements that BoJo believed to be a panacea in the absence of a free trade agreement with the EU. Another slant on it is connected with Greensill, which sought government funding to support its loans to the steel industry. I'm unsure why such a policy falls under the remit of an ethic's adviser unless, as may be true, BoJo asked if deliberately breaking WTO rules would be deemed a violation of the ministerial code. Victorian
The fact that Spaffer's reply to Geidt included a bit that appears to rationalise the tariffs issue as him merely seeking advice regarding deliberately breaking WTO rules to further a corrupt business/funding transaction shouts volumes about his relationship with his position, responsibilites, obligations, as well as probity and integrity. In other words... what's your advice on me choosing to engage in corruption by breaking the law? He clearly believes he's entitled to do things that are illegal, unethical and undemocratic. He's not likely to recognise he's not entitled to a blank cheque. He and his gang need to be erased from public life.
