More affordable housing, more NHS staff, more police, better funding for essential council services, etc There's a concerning disconnect between the SG and the Scottish voters currently - the SG say they're constrained by Westminster funding rules, yet seem determined to avoid raising more taxes from Scottish businesses and people, imo for political reasons. Keep blaming devolution. In an independent Scotland, would we (the voters) not expect to pay more tax in order to achieve these better outcomes ? I would, and would gladly pay more tax if I could see a SG with radical ambition to improve the country. Take the FoH analogy. Whats the point of moaning that Hearts don't have enough money to compete at the top end of the league when we (the fans) have got the means of giving extra funding voluntarily to the club ? If Hearts came out and said they were looking for funding to build our own training facility, most fans would gladly contribute if they could afford to. For me, I love Scotland and would take the same view if it was to help advance our country. Just on your first paragraph. We have built more affordable housing, have more nhs staff, have more police than rUK already (can't comment on council services as no idea how to find that out)

The other group, in blatant disregard for the rules and the rest of the population, decided that parties were appropriate. People up and down the country adhere and break guidance or laws every single day. It does not mean any of those people are linked. Do you not acknowledge that those who formulated and sought to impose restrictions on the population is a political issue? I’ll be honest it’s a tough one because on the actual party issue I think if people who work together every day, in the same office decide to have a piss up in their place of work I don’t really see the harm. Most of those parties would have been full of hardworking office staff. That said if caught they should have been dealt with in line with the rules or laws at the time. Over and above that those in positions of authority who had knowledge should probably lose their jobs. Let’s be honest though people up and down the country we’re having parties and get together’s in varying levels of rule breaking. I know people who lost loved ones they couldn’t see but who also broke the rules. I just find rolling out heartbroken people and yet another picture of the queen sitting on her own all a bit needless, distasteful and political. SectionDJambo
Probably as big a concern as these government employees, senior staff and the PM having these gatherings, which were clearly illegal, is that the Met Police must have known what was going on and did nothing. The Met Police know exactly who goes through the gates to and from No10, and you would like to think that they could realise people have been drinking when they are checking back out again. Then there is the story of somebody being sent out for drink for the April booze ups that we are now hearing happened on the eve of Prince Philip's funeral. So they were allowed to go out and come back with a suitcase, or similar, of booze. No check on the contents in case of an explosive device being smuggled in? The officers of a Met Police Commissioner, who has been reprieved from the sack for incompetence on more than one occasion by this government, turning a blind eye whilst coming down hard on the public. It stinks. The whole culture within Downing Street is one of chaos and little regard for the rules that the general population had to follow. That culture comes from the top. The PM is ultimately responsible for all of these indiscretions as he is the leader who sets the tone. Like her or loathe her, but can you imagine Thatcher having allowed these events to have taken place during the times we are living through now? Or indeed any PM in recent memory? Any defence of Johnson is pathetic.
