It was Dingwalls furniture store

other Corstorphine shops I remember were Duchess, Sweet Inspirations, Lows, Mr Johns, Woolies, the laundrette that is now Winstons, the old womans sweetie shop near the library, Wearmouths, Newk, BBQ, Tarrys, but one still sends shivers down my spine....... Banks

From what I recall Banks sold ornaments and things like that and was next to the Duchess. Everywhere you went in the shop were signs that said nice to look at, nice to hold, but if you break it, we will consider it sold. My mum would point to the signs as we entered and I would follow her round absolutely terrified I would knock something off the shelf.

Garton's toy shop on St John's Road. Brilliant wee place.

Booked my first lads holiday in a travel agent in Shandwick Place, think it was called Budget Travel, there was also lots of Lunn Poly shops dotted around.

I'm sure everyone of a certain age (50's) must have booked a holiday with Martin Frutin Travel. He had shops in Leith and the West end I think. [emoji41]

I can't remember why but I discovered about the ice rink at Haymarket a while ago and spent a while doing some research on it.

It was primarily a curling rink and closed in the mid 70's.

My dad took me to some car show there, roughly mid 70's as I was a nipper.

Anybody know College Street Church, a tragic day for my Dad and I 56 years ago, missed a Hearts game somewhere on this date for a wedding. As I was the groom I guess there was some importance in my having to attend.

Pizzaland

They were far better than the shit that ended up taking over Pizza Hut.

I loved Pizzaland. They used to do vouchers in the paper for pizza for a penny. I used them......often!

It most certainly didn't close down years ago. It used to annoy me when I went in for work related stuff as obviously someone who worked there was a hun as all the sample nameplates for doors were the names of Rangers players.

Used to lose time regularly in Allan's record shop, disappointed to see it close down. Loved wandering around the SpookErection market and also over the road to Goldbergs. Gerrys in the Grassmarket. The chip shop on Gilmore Place which had crinkle chips, but don't remember the chip shop on Tarvit Street.

Guilty of buying Boney M, Blondie and other 70s singles there... (12 inch singles, picture discs)

SpookErection sold seemingly everything. Saw a big police chase on foot in there, boy throwing sausages...

Played kickabout football outside Goldberg's, and skateboard craze late 70s

The tarvit street chippy was next to Burlington Bertie's... The old lady used to spit in the fat fryer to see if hot enough. :)

Smiths clothes shop in bread street , they advertised in the hearts programme,

Browns sweet shop outside corstorphine primary, always in there before school .

The village where the white lady is now was wee outlets within one complex.

Anyone remember what they were, one was a travel agent.

Tarrys chippy next to the manse snooker hall, many a supper after a sesh in the corrie inn.

Think the first record I bought there was Ant Music. The boy was throwing sausages  Well now we know why that chippy shut down, glad I never used it.

Best arcade had to be Lothian road. What was the name of the game where four of you could play together and you had wizards, trolls etc and you could collect and use things like spells.

Lawson's timber.

Remember going with my Dad when he was doing a spot of DIY in the 80s.

He took me into that surf/skate shop next door and bought me some NFL tat they were selling at the time. Glad to see that shop is still there!

Berry Menswear.

I seem to recall the old guy as a moaning turd.

Bought a cracking suit there with huge flares. Thought I was the dugs but in reality must have looked a right ticket; just like everyone else in the 70s.

Happy Days.

I know the name but can't place where the shop actually was.

Do you also remember Cowan Tailoring beside the ABC on Lothian Road?

College jerseys and Hi-waisters.

Does anyone remember the sex shop that was on Leith Walk in the early 80s? I used to pass it on the way to/from school and it was always funny watching guys trying to subtlety sneak in to the place. I can't remember it's name but it used to keep getting raided by the police. I reckon some retired coppers will have a good collection of Strapadicktome's due to them confiscating half the shop's inventory.
