The Championship is pretty rubbish. You can see it in that the EPL relegated sides plus promoted Ipswich are  dominating the league.

The gap between the PL and Champ has never been bigger - the massive parachute payments means the relegated PL sides can keep most of their squad together in the Champ - for at least the first season. Hence Leicester running away with it and Soton / Leeds in 3rd and 4th.

Also shows just how well Ipswich have done so far this season to be second at this stage, with a far smaller budget than the three relegated teams.

What does this bit mean?

Are they different from the rest of us?

More suggesting they're the same as the rest of us. As opposed to being glory hunters.

They handed out free scarves to the fans as they were waiting to be bussed to the stadium

Surprised Newcastle fans would need a new scarf.

Not sure I agree with that. There's almost no gap imo. The top Championship clubs are every bit as good as the relegation fodder in the Premier League.

Well spotted. That could make it very interesting for us as neutrals - the hope of Man U getting a bloody nose notwithstanding.

With the way they've been playing this season, it's more expectation than hope!

Wigan 1-0 Man United, with a half way line goal from Humps please. :jj:

I’ve just remembered Middlesbrough have got Chelsea on Tuesday night. A tough few days for them.

And rightly so.

He did well for us (albeit in difficult circumstances) and clearly has something to offer as a coach.

The lad Hackney is Scottish too. Has to be on Clarke’s radar.

Only if he has some affiliation with tims, either ex players current players or a supporter of celtic seems to be clarke way with odd bluenose to stop any media hassle, cairney at fulham has been excellent recently and he won't call him up so doubt some guy from boro.

Ryan Bowman #9 for Shrewsbury.   Steven Fletcher #26 for Wrexham.

Two absolute thugs.   Bowman used to play for Motherwell.

Decent match so far though 😊

Wrexham obviously.

The crowd at City is absolutely shocking! Appreciate the game is on BBC Red Button, but that is utterly terrible for the Champions of Europe and the World.

Wrexham player Mullin should be off for that studs on the keepers forearm.

That Bamford goal for Leeds today is as good a goal as you will ever see.

Even got a dedicated bit on the BBC Sport front page. Chests a long ball down, and hits it 180 degrees on the volley first time.

I disagree. One team poor at finishing.

The other were good at finishing.

The Luiz Diaz goal at the end showed the big difference between the two teams.

One touch, bang, goal.

Arsenal, touch after touch after touch.

Correct John.  How many times did Rice pass the ball out to the left wing only to get it back again in the centre circle three passes later?

Martinelli didn't start to be fair. And everyone wanted to sign Declan Rice. But it looks like the fantastic football that destroyed teams last season has been parked. Declan Rice slows Arsenal down and who knows what Havertz is meant to be doing.

Liverpool prioritised the League Cup semi but were still pretty comfortable winners. Also put on their youngsters at 0-0.

Posted

Good game that, EPL teams have so many naturally fit players. Still playing at that pace in 90 minutes is incredible.

Liverpool's names on the Cup.

That’s 3 games on the bounce trying the eye of the needle pass V 3 losses.

Arteta seems to be obsessed with not going for a traditional centre forward. I’m sure he could have got one hell of a goalscorer for the £65m he spent on Havertz.

That was awful today, I wish I'd stayed at home. I can't work out why he started Paqueta, he didn't even last 10 minutes before he went off with the same injury he copped at arsenal.
