£25 Million and then they can talk about Shankland.  ;)

Palace been dire, home team playing for a draw

Harsh red that

Posted

Bit harsh giving a VAR based red card for that.

Posted

If he makes contact and its a horror tackle.

😁 great decision. Always good to give the moaning faced Everton fans something else to get upset about.

Laughed at how tinpot Sunderland are allowing Newcastle to take over their stadium bar - removed all Sunderland signage and replace it with Newcastle stuff.

They've given into home fan pressure this evening but imagine even thinking about doing that to your own stadium to accommodate a rival.

St Mirren of course a comparison up here with the Celtic shop incident.

Throw in Lewis Dobbin on loan and a deal could be done.

Posted

It's beginning to seem that if a ref is called to the VAR screen to check a challenge from the VAR desk then he doesn't want to stand his ground with his decision.

Two poor teams = crap game.
Not a red card though.

If he stabs Clyne with a machete it’s a horrible moment. He doesn’t, so it’s not.

They did. Sunderland stadium bar turned black and white with Cheer up Peter Reid signage put up etc.

Does this remind you of anything?  Palace playing at home against 10 men and still passing the ball backwards.

Posted

Time for Edouard to take a dive in the box here.  He has form for that.

Jesus. He's calling it a "serious error of judgement".

**** that. A breathtakingly insulting decision for the Sunderland fans. Cannot have been a decision made by anyone that actually cares about the club, its history or identity.

That is an absolute embarrassment. If that happened up here, I'd expect the CEO to hang for it :D

Good result for Crystal Palace.   Everton home form is worse than away.   I'd expect CP to win or at least make the next round.

When is holding opposing player in box not a pen?

Everton desperately need to sign a striker after tonight.

Never a Red card in a million years

A decision made by as someone who has never played football in their life.

Makems at my work will be furious and rightly so. The toon fans are all being bussed there and back. Match tickets only handed out when you get on the free bus so if anyone sick or hung over they miss match. No ticket transfers.

Woeful but unsurprising decision with the red card. Officials have lost a grip but unfortunately it's going to continue.

VAR shouldn't be switched on in this competition since it's only available at certain grounds.

Stonewall red card under present day rules. Went onto challenge with studs up and foot raised so no alternative other than red.

It wasn't soft, I'll admit it wasn't malicious, but that catches Palace guy full on instead of just on side of leg, it would have caused serious damage.

We would have been raging if that had been on Newell on Shankland.

Folk complaining that it should be allowed still living in 1970''s need to realise that football has changed.

Some drivel.

Boots not high, no intent, doesn't endanger the opponent and 99/100 in any other game, no sending off.

Look at photo of tackle. Straight leg off the ground with studs up over height of ball. It's a red card nowadays.

Intent doesn't come in to it.

I was going to watch that game too, as I thought it was one of the last true derbies in England, but seeing as it’s just as tinpot as the rest I don’t think I’ll bother now.

How daft can you be to sign that off…

I watched the game, I saw the replay 20 times. He clearly wins the ball, its not a Red card nowadays at all as it shouldn't have been given. The ref didn't even give a foul.

It's VAR making up the rules as it goes along.

No dog in this fight but I think it was borderline  just catches the players shin but four inches more and it is a leg breaker . I think that happens in a game to one of our players we would be asking for a card.

You were watching a different game to me he gets the ball only after he makes contact with the players shin. It was borderline but no way does he win the ball before he straight legs the players shin.

Its still a proper derby, the Mackems are livid.

Unforgivable what they did to the bar, all about money for the owners, letting 6000 mags attend in the first place was mental.

Got me ticket for the home end and looking forward to an eventful day out.

No it's not. That decision was made by someone miles away from the game.

The onfield referee, the person actually in charge of the game should have told the VAR ref in Stockley Park where to stick his Red card.

It is a curious thing but away fan bars are the norm now. Making them feel welcome they probably spend more too. Sunderland looking stupid a nice bonus though.

That's been there for years. We sang it about him first.

Oh, I could fly without wings

On the back of Reidy's kings

At three o'clock I'm happy as can be

'Cause the good times they are here

And the Premiership is near

So watch out world as all of Roker sings

Cheer up, Peter Reid

Oh, what can it mean

To a Sunderland supporter

To be top of the League?

We once thought of you

As a Scouser dressed in blue

Now you're red and white through and through

We had all dreamt of the day

When a saviour would come our way

And now we know our dreams are coming true

Cheer up, Peter Reid

Oh, what can it mean

To a Sunderland supporter

To be top of the League?

Fair enough if that's the case.

It was reported on the BBC site as having been put up for this game.
