As one who is a 60 seconds walk away from the Anchor Inn, I can confirm there was a shooting outside the pub just before the Bells last night. One person a male was killed. West Granton Road closed in both directions from the road entrance down to Lidl's and B&M's to the entrance to the United Wire Works. Pilton Drive North and Granton Crescent both closed off at the West Granton Road End.

Plenty Police Scotland in attendance.

You should've seen it in the 60s/70s.

A huge part of my family lived minutes from the Anchor and most of them drank there.

Was it worse then than in the 80s/early-mid 90s?

Undoubtedly so. I just hope that no innocent people get caught in the crossfire.

If you agree everyone involved in gang violence should be murdered.

Going to be a long list.

In my experience , it was like the wild west (shootings in The Gunner , even back then) but with the advent of drugs (available over the counter in places like The Ferry Boat) some might say different.

Oh aye, it'll be like the wild west in Granton, Pilton and Drylaw for the next few months.

Not for people who live in the area, it isn’t. As I said above, I hope when the retribution inevitably comes that nobody is caught in the crossfire.

And remember many in fact most of those “ scum” have came from very difficult backgrounds , poverty , etc . Their chances in life were limited  from the day they were born. So what options have they have in life?

They could have chosen to not try and kill other people.  What goes around comes around.

So it suits some on this to harp on about the impact of poverty / life chances etc when talking about the toarues etc but when events like this can be traced to life chances / poverty / low aspirations etc they are classed as “ scum “ hhhhhmm.

Anyway please remember it’s a live police investigation so people need to be careful what they say or indeed surmise about anyone involved in this incident .

It was his aspirations that got him killed, his aspiration to be some sort of crime lord.

What the **** are you talking about? I think most are using the scum in reference to someone who dealt drugs and faced attempted murder charges.

He was goading the folk that done it on social media, daring them to come and get him at the pub, saying they were shite bags and that they wouldn't do it.

I was brought up in Granton. Nobody I know has gone on to make a career out of being a low level hitman and wannabe gangster.

James, this isn't some poor street urchin caught up in gangs.

Think organised crime from a young age, fast cars and exotic holidays etc
