If he was that good and it definitely wasn't about the colour of his skin then he would have pissed the members vote the first time round against the poundshop Thatcher, quite possibly the thickest politician to ever hold high office.

Yet here we are.

I think it's more a case that the membership are predominately Boris supporters and Sunak was seen by them as the man who stabbed Boris in the back, well there was never a cat's chance in hell that they would then vote for Sunak.  Race may have played a part with some, but not as many as some would think.

Brandon Lewis also resigned, before being sacked.

A "unity" cabinet?  Maybe Sunak should appoint Nads as drinks cabinet secretary.

Sunak seemingly asked that no MPs attended.

Or staffers or aides or even his family, seemingly wanted it as low key as possible, not to be seen as a victory speech or coronation.

Sadly not it seems. However, the good news is that his first major delivery is being fast-tracked to a local food bank, where an army of volunteers are frantically buttering the sliced bread.

Brilliant speech by the pm. Hope he turns things around, starting with a clear out of anyone who backed Truss.

You'll find a list if you look at the confidence vote on fracking last week 👍

Seems like Cruella is to return to cabinet, just a week after being sacked for a security issue.

"Mistakes" are forgiven in short order under the Tories.

That thing you do

Market reaction not excited for him being appointed. I guess we will see who is in his cabinet and what the new mini budget/ burning of the old one looks like.

Rishi will supercharge austerity in my opinion and hike taxes. Its the only option left im afraid and I dont see a freeze on energy pricing lasting either.

Is it? The national debt was already at £352 billion by the time I was at working age.

The debt during our working life, yeah we should clear that.

Only about 50% of you...the rest bizarrely want stuff like this. Of course those who've already got it are the ones truly shafting folk though.

I totally agree. But those with a mindset of “I don’t get inflation pay rises so why should they?”, or those who hate the idea of our citizens receiving government “freebies” because, “l don’t get any” etc etc, will applaud any backtracking on the TL.

But at least such a message will be delivered under the guise of “compassionate Tories” or “Get the Old Duffers Done”.

The market won't have overlooked the fact Francois and his brexit loons held a press conference in Westminster yesterday to say they hadn't endorsed either candidate.

Thank god "Rashid Sanook" is their unity candidate or we'd be in a right state.

Ben Wallace must have some serious skeletons in his closet. If he didn't he'd have run for PM.

Think exactly the same. Given the lean to BoJo that defies common sense, unfortunately I think he has keys to that closet.
