First time, we got to the station way too early and had to faff about getting the tickets transferred to an earlier train (you have to book a seat and there is no standing). Connected through Cologne a few times - but was a couple of years ago. It was possible to connect from Schengen gates to non-Shengen gates without going out through security/leaving airside (but I recall it was not well signposted). You just went through a passport control booth and walked between the two sets of gates. It’s a small-ish airport compared to others so 50 minutes sounds very doable if no delays. These ‘self transfer, connections tend to be put together by the online travel agent (Skycanner etc) rather than being official airline connections. Means if something goes wrong it falls to the agent and not airline to get you home. The call centres tend to be ok and helpful - but make sure you note the telephone number down. Equally, not booking in advance need be a concern, was my main point. PS That E44.90 price is a rip off - I've travelled Rome-Bologna (twice the distance IIRC) for less. If you turned up at Roma Termini this afternoon the cheapest ticket on a fast train would be 50 euros one way - so on a return trip you could potentially be looking at a saving of up to 60 Euros from booking in advance. Best advice for the fast trains is probably to book in advance but just build in plenty time for potential delays.

I worked in travel insurance for a few years - and MyTrip were part of one of the largest European online travel agents. So they should know what works - and they should have the people to fix things if there’s a problem. Reckon you’ll be ok so no need to stress. Morgan
I know there’s an official thread for this, but.. Edinburgh to Nice on EasyJet. A 50 minute train journey from Nice to Ventimiglia (the first Italian town over the border). A two hour (roughly) train journey to Genoa, then a train to Florence. No - Pisa to Florence trains are just regional trains so you can just buy a ticket at the station - around 9 euros each way. Just remember to validate your ticket in one of the machines at the station before you get on the train. There is a light railway from Pisa Airport to Pisa Centrale station - which just takes a few minutes - and then you'll need to change platforms at Pisa Centrale. SeanInRome
Hi Everyone, I’m new here and just wanted to point out the trains can be a great way to get around Italy albeit no away fans ever make the last high speed trains after games on the night. The police can keep fans inside for up to 2 hours after a game but always a minimum of 45 minutes, then you are escorted to the fans/safe zone. I live and work in tourism in Italy so if anyone need some info they can’t find on the web they can PM me.

This was despite me calling them straight after the message came up asking them them to cancel as I needed to rebook elsewhere. The idiot on the phone said that my booking would be fine and it was just payment authorisation.
