What's a Britnat? Is it an English Nationalist or a Scottish, Welsh or NI person who wants to remain part of the Union?

Β

BritnatΒ

It is the shortened form of British nationalist, somebody who believes in the nationhood of Britain. This should be contrasted with Scottish, English or Welsh nationalists who would see Britain as an amalgamation of nations, either through union (Scotland and England) or conquest (England and Wales).

Β

All good now?

It's relative, Vic.

Β

If you're being 'interviewed' by Neil, you've just got to remain calm and patient, have a few facts up your sleeve and wait for Ol' Brillo to get a wee chubby about some "zinger" point he's wanted to make all interview. Sunak did well to bite his tongue and avoid bursting out with. "Aww, FFS, ya wiry headed balloon, can you not just wait for an answer to your question?" He was (unusually for a politician) actually attempting to answer the questions but getting interrupted and spoken over by Brillopad.

I heard it said, before the elimination rounds even started, that these Conservative candidates for leader and PM, would enable Kier Starmer to sit back with his feet up and watch them do more damage to the Conservative Party than Labour could do themselves.

It seems to be heading that way. Sunak has been sidelined because they believe he betrayed the buffoon. Such is the frenzy of Truss to attract the support of the approximately 160,000 Tory members, by telling them what they want to hear, she is also telling the rest of us how incompetent she is. Something the Russians already showed us before the invasion of Ukraine.
This latest, one day, policy of regional pay boards was music to the ears of Rees Mogg and his party within a party, but horrified other Conservatives all over the rest of the UK.

The Conservative Party is a shambles. The arrogance of power has overwhelmed them. Can Labour take advantage? They’ll have up their game significantly as, up to now, there’s not much sign of it. They’ll never have a better chance of returning to power than they’ll have in 2 years, or less.

I can't make up my mind whether Starmer's relative quiet is a good strategy while the Trunak circus rattles on. Is he keeping his powder dry to unleash truth-bombs and policies over the next 2 years or is he, as some suggest, bereft of any real ideas & values?

Β

A well martialled Labour party should stroll into #10 but this lot still seem to be factionalised a wee bit. Corbyn's a dangerous prick and there are plenty with a red rosette who line up behind him. Then you've got dicks like that guy who Starmer fired last week who appear to think they're like Rik from the Young Ones; not taking party politics at all seriously.

Sadly they can't because as soon as Keith starts to tell us what he stands for the barely contained divisions in the Labour party erupt again and then someone with the lack of intelligence and limited ability of the poundshop Thatcher waltzes into Downing Street.

Β

How shite a situation is that?

The fundamental policy and ideological differences are bad enough but they aren't even very good at explaining why and how they present a better standard of governance.Β  Higher standards,Β  etc.

I disagree. Three years ago, the Australian Labor Party went big with a very progressive agenda, which they were shouting from the rooftops.Β

Β

Being so open and putting themselves out there allowed the Liberals (Aussie Tories) and the right wing press, to pick enough holes and cast wnough seeds of doubt about their policies. Labor lost.

Β

This year,Β  they were up against the same prime minister,Β  but he was now hugely reviled around the country. Labor went 'small target', didn't make much noise,Β  just let people think about three more years of Morrison.Β  We now have a Labor government.Β

Β

Labour will probably go 'small target' against the Tories this time,Β  give them nothing to aim at... just let the people imagine another term of...Liz Truss!!!

There's no guarantee that will translate here.Β  There's a deep rooted malaise of politics and politicians.Β  A widespread belief that they're all the same.Β  No alternatives to the Tories.Β  Nobody can do better.Β  Nobody can deliver better standards in office.Β  A deep set prejudice against perceived socialism.Β Β

What really took hold in the Aus election was the Teal's movement and the alternative they offered. That allied to the 'small target' approach is probably what did for Morrison.Β

Β

The only alternative movement here was in the other direction with the UKIP & BNP types who have effectively taken the Tory party over.

Β

Clegg destroyed the liberal's creibility which leaves the English electorate with the choice of empire 2.0 or Keith from accounts.Β

Β

They love empire 2.0 and all the misty eyed bollocks that goes with it. Warm beer, leather on willow, deporting brown faces, rampant corruption and failing upwards due to your school tie.Β

Β

Truss will probably piss the next election, at which point the Labour Party should be wound up for good.Β
