Russian definitely needs loads of guys with no experience who don't want to be there against the highly motivated, well armed Ukrainians.

The Mighty Thor

Them mobile cremmatoria are going to be busy as winter approaches.

Untrained conscripts with shit equipment against an army fighting for its homeland's survival.

Economy in Russia must be strong

If you think about 1914 and the mass volunteering, the troops like McCrae's battalion weren't in France until early 1916. Took over a year to get mobilised, equipped and trained and that was for a static war with artillery being guided by blokes in balloons and biplanes. Either these Russians are being recruited for an offensive deployment next year or their going to be frozen to death or blown to bits before Christmas.

Reports from the Evil Empire (AKA The Russian Federation) say that the vast majority of call-ups are in ethnic minority communities out on the fringes.

Running to type then, as we know that foreign militia have formed the backbone of the "speshul militury opporayshun" since day one.

Putin desperate to not send "good Russian laddies" to the Ukrainian mincer.

Watched this last night, what a humble and well-spoken guy their Foreign Affairs Minister is. Fully acknowledging that they are giving the Russians a good stiff kicking, but equally happy to say, 'we didn't want this, you started it.' A decent watch as he describes the overall feeling in the Ukraine right now.

Top class film.

The sequels however, were absolutely awful.

They've given them 1930's bolt action rifles.

And he's probably the lucky one that got a gun. They have history of sending unarmed troops into Stalingrad who had to wait for someone to get shot before they got a gun.

I wouldn't get to excited about Russia losing in Ukraine. It's not going to happen.

What does victory for them even look like now though? Major counteroffensive retaking the regions they’ve been pushed out from them negotiation?

They're getting a bigger arse kicking in their own backyard than they ever did in Afghan, and look what happened there.

They're never winning this war and Ukraine can now obliterate Russian troops and materiel (ships too) from 50km away it's going to get  a whole lot worse for them.  Russias has already suffered huge troop losses to an army that had vastly inferior fire-power while fighting with better troops than it's mobilizing  now.  If Biden keeps writing the cheques Putin will lose.

To be fair, sniper units around the world still use modified versions of WW1 rifles.

UK only stopped using them in 1993.

I get the feeling that Ukraine is currently working up to another breakthrough like the one a couple of weeks ago. The most obvious candidate is Lukhansk Oblast but there could be a nice bit of game-changing sneakiness in the south.

It'll be ammunition that could be a problem, it was chambered in 7.62×54mmR, I'm not sure what the availability of that cartridge is now a days.

I think there is a good chance they will try to force the Ruskies out of Kherson by cutting their supply routes

They should hopefully also be able to do the same to Lyman then the twin cities on the river

I was planning on red Zinfandel and a few single malts. Guess Christmas in your household goes a little differently? :booze:

Those are good additions too. Perhaps some Frey Bentos in the mix as well.

What about those who can't open them?

Placing them directly under a tactical nuclear explosion might just do the trick.

"Voting" underway in the 4 semi-occupied regions of Ukraine.

The Russkies don't even have full control of ANY of those 4 regions yet they're trying to hold sham referenda for those 4 regions to join Russia.

IT workers, bankers and journalists working for state media will escape the "partial mobilisation" announced by President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.

Given the jihad on bankers elsewhere in the shed, it's pretty ironic that formerly communist Russia sees their value.

It's worrying what Putin's plan will be once all these conscripts meet their maker in the next few months. It's clear that he's not going to withdraw, NATO countries will up their support, so what's next level of escalation?

Someone needs to shoot Putin soon.

I really shouldn't say on a public forum, but, anywhere between 30 and 600 yards on a decent day I'd drill the hoor right in the napper with my big rifle if someone can get me there😁

I'd get out alive alright, I'd take the wife with me, even the mercenaries wouldn't tackle her!
