I'd bet the mortgage that had Newcastle been breaking with the ball when he had a quick glance he'd have been straight back up but saw Liverpool had it and tried to get the ref to stop the game. I don't think he was allowed to ref Liverpool matches at first but he must have convinced the powers that be he's Tranmere through and through.
