His own advisor Fauci  said it was 12 to 18 months away from being mass produced.

Some News outlets claiming an antibody treatment will get everyone back to work from next week. Is this the same one?

No the antibody is just to say if you have had it already.

Trump will no doubt start saying vaccine will only get done by end of year if he is re elected cause only he can delivery it.

Fox (I know) are saying that some scientists in California have identified an antibody that will shield the body from the virus. Probably another pro trump false report.

No idea on that then.I remember Fauci last week on about something but it was nowhere near a vaccine just a drug that was helping with it that had shown good results.

And when to open up .

Yes people do die because of inequality.

The rise in absolute poverty is attributed to covid.

It's the first time its risen I think this century.

Theres also the impact on all our health in lots of ways .

There must come a point when the current lockdown does more harm?

I dont know .

Just read it it's pretty much what was said at the press conference. There is an article from 3 days ago though saying a company Moderna have started trials and are at phase two in which the will follow volunteers through the next 12 months.I think they are being fanciful with end of year talk but let's hope they are not.

I think there must be a sort of tipping point, for want of a better term, in the Lockdown. That is probably why they are talking about lifting things for social interaction as well as business. All work and no play etc.....

I'm still of the view that we don't know enough yet and any extra time scientists can get will make the decisions of politicians better informed.

It's a while away and the risk without proper scrutiny would have too much fear factor if rushed.

Tbh, I'm not sure if it's just me but I reckon people are more scared of being seen making a slight distancing misstep than actually catching this thing  like today I was at a supermarket waiting at the checkout and a guy had loaded his shopping on the conveyor belt, he was away at the bagging bit but one of his items fell off near my end, I was quite near so without thinking I just picked it up for him and put it back on the belt. Don't think the guy even noticed but I was just like 'shit should I have even done that' and immediately expected to be arrested or something  ludicrous.

Also on the walk home I seen a wee old woman avoid the danger of another person walking past her by stepping out into a main road, not just off the kerb but a good 2 or 3 feet onto it. Don't think she'd fully weighed up the risks of each of those options.

Lol I had a similar experience. a jogger was heading towards me and i stepped one way and he stepped the same way. then i stepped the other way and he did too.  we actually both just burst out laughing. its a mad world just now

It is true but only for certain parts

All 44 charges brought under the Coronavirus Act, which allows officers to remove or detain a "suspected infectious person" for screening and assessment, since it was brought in on March 27 were incorrect.

And 12 charges under the Health Protection Regulations 2020, which give powers to break up gatherings and fine people breaching restriction of movement rules, were also wrong.

Anyway, the real reason I came onto this thread before I got distracted was to say I’ve just watched a YouTube video of a channel I follow. It’s about watches but is also a sort of travelogue of Italy. The presenter was going to Venice to do some business looking at accommodation, deserted train on the way there, deserted streets when he was there. Everyone respecting lockdown and the authorities. Meanwhile in the UK where we now exceed Italy in terms of casualties...

Something touching about this given that front line health workers have died in action so to speak during the crisis.

As so often with these reports you wonder how closely the observer is obeying the rules. Was "doing a sort of travelogue and looking at accommodation"  "essential travel" under Italy's lock down rules?

And unless we know how the Italians are counting deaths (and indeed how exactly we are) the score between Italy vs UK looks too close to call at present.

I have seen pictures of crowded streets in Naples during lock down.

I suppose if any city in the world was going to look deseted during lockdown, it's Venice.

Highest tourist / resident ratio anywhere, only around 250k residents, of which about a fifth, live in the centre.

Would be interesting to see centre of Milan for comparison.

Yeah

A nasty little aside in the last paragraph at the end of a Telegraph article which is littered with "the Prime Minister is reported to have said.." (double speak for this is what he said but he will deny it if anyone can prove it is wrong) suggests that PHE is also being lined up in the blame game.

“But, according to several MPs on the call, he made it clear that “there was no question of moving to austerity and he would double down on capital projects like Northern Powerhouse Rail” to get the economy going.

The crisis could be a “springboard for our ambitions” he reportedly said, with the Government already committed to increasing spending on health and policing. His approach, he reportedly said, was “unlike any other Conservative government we have had… we are going to make sure we level up right across the country and keep faith with the people who voted for us”.

Asked directly whether there would be a pay freeze for NHS workers, Mr Johnson reportedly replied: “Absolutely not. Anyone who suggests that can sit on it.”

The Prime Minister said he would “look at” the idea of partial furloughs for employees at small firms, which could allow the Government and businesses to jointly pay staff salaries as the UK comes out of lockdown.

Asked whether he wanted to tax his way out of the crisis, he reportedly replied that Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor, was examining “innovative” solutions to help entrepreneurs emerge from the lockdown measures.

One Tory MP said the Prime Minister gave the impression that “they are looking at liberalising the tax regime rather than tightening it” and the Government would “look after” those on the lowest incomes.

Speaking about the Government’s coronavirus strategy and how to keep the infection rate down, Mr Johnson said: “We mustn’t let the mugger get back off the floor, and we’re going to play Whack-a-Mole across the country wherever coronavirus flares up.”

Looking ahead, he suggested he would examine reforming how health quango PHE is run once lessons from the Government’s handling of the crisis start to be learned.“

What does acknowledged mean though? I think the furlough scheme's helped many but is poor compared to universal basic income via the already existing NI system which wouldn't need forms, applications, red tape, etc. The Tories won't touch that because they don't like the socialist connotations, thinhs must be done via businesses, so should I give them credit for extending something that's quite good instead of putting in place something better for more?

There are other reasons they cannot do that. NIC records are a mess - partly due to many illegals using other peoples' NIC codes. HMRC are keen for everything to be done through PAYE as it takes the onus off them and puts it onto employers - this is the real reason for IR35.

They should all fill in one of these 'do not resuscitate' type forms in the event they catch Covid-19 they get told to boost by the NHS👍

Shouldn't even be allowed into an ambulance or A&E if it comes to that...

As is well known I do not like either the SNP or Nicola Sturgeon.

But I think she has come across really well during this crisis, she had been straight talking,  empathetic and has made herself available literally every single day to the press conference.  The poor women should treat herself to a day off as she may be exhausted.  Even the most hate filled unionist would struggle to criticise her for delegating just one of the press conferences.

The NHS is for everybody - that's the way it was designed and that's the way it should stay. If we start means-testing access to it then that means testing will be screwed further and further down until even you can't get access to it any more.

Then it should be a charity like the PDSA...My father is reasonably wealthy, paid his taxes all his life and gave 10% of the is annual earnings to charity, and did not use the NHS apart from when he got hit in the eye with a golf ball when a young man.. He is now 80 and has vascular dementia due to mini-strokes. He must've paid a fortune into the NHS, yet you reckon he should have to go private in his declining years?

If he or my mother ever have to go into a care home then they'd have to pay for it, but surely he should get treated through the NHS for any further mini-strokes etc he has...
