...... however, it's hardly going to stunt a child's development being home schooled for a few months.

You've clearly not seen my attempts at home schooling. My kids now think the French words to "Heads, shoulders, knees and toes" are "Haw-hee-haw-hee-haw".

When they go back, it's going to be like that Friends episode where Joey teaches a dance class.

The summer holidays are 2 months. So far schools have been closed for less than 3 months, teachers are still working, giving out work and kids are being home schooled. They aren't absent. The Daily Mails headline yesterday was hilarious and pathetic in equal measure.

The deaths of transport workers are massively on the governments hands, if you want teachers to follow suit then fair enough, I don't agree.

Yes I am a big fan of killing transport workers and teachers!

A while back when I posted on here about the disproportionate deaths of London bus drivers I was told by someone that he had only heard about it on JKB, with clear implication I was making it up.

And to date I have seen no real explanation of this anomaly, bus drivers being relatively (eg compared to supermarket workers) isolated from the public with relatively small numbers of shorter duration contacts with greater distancing and screening.

Yet you are willing to convict the government (every government) with the benefit of hindsight of mass murder of transport workers when no-one predicted it or can to this day explain it.

What should the government (every government)  have done in your view, even with the benefit of hindsight. Closed public transport so that essential workers including nurses and hospital cleaners and catering staff and so on could not get to work. Or should the government have had huge stocks of PPE equipment available for everyone working with or close to the public in anticipation of the impact of  this virus coming along?

I'm surprised at that statement from you FA.

Why? I have always felt that having a separate education system for the rich and powerful has been one of the great weaknesses of this country and one of the most damaging for the majority of its people.

I think you get a hard time from many on here FA, often because they've assumed your coming from a certain position based on the idea they have of you in their head.

That's not a pop at Jake either in any way; I've often been surprised by your stance on something I expected you to think differently about but now believe you are just quite pragmatic rather than dogmatic and like reading your posts on things even when I don't agree with you 👍

British Medical Association: "Don't send kids back to school yet"
NASUWT: "Don't send kids back to school yet"
NEU: "Don't send kids back to school yet"
Almost every regional council in the UK: "We're not opening schools yet"

Central Government: "Get the kids back to school"

Bouncing the schools open + the private schools staying shut = says it all really.   The UK's two-tier system in microcosm.

If the NHS wasn't treated like a religion in this country, we would be able to have cross party discussions about how to fund it going forward. It needs a complete overhaul and a move towards a hybrid system that works so well in Germany and other European countries. Free at the point of delivery for those who need it and, for those that can afford it compulsory medical insurance. And for tourists and others who use it as an international health service....you pay..

Sturgeon is one of the most competent senior politicians in the UK.

And certainly the most competent leader.

If anything she should take it a bit easier .

It's a tough gig and not much to win politically.

She will be under pressure regarding the economy.I would bet shes not been pleasing construction etc.

We are lucky to have her leading I think given the others available.

I re read my post.

There must be words and other Scottish politicians that you could have as first minister.

Certainly none of the other leaders .

Shes definitely a very competent and top bracket politician.

So it's not a case of words failing you it's a case of any argument against that failing you.

Enjoy laughing its amusing to me.

https://metro.co.uk/2020/05/16/dutch-government-advises-single-people-find-lockdown-sex-buddies-12712090/

Team up and find a ‘sex buddy’ – is the official advice being giving to horny singletons in Holland looking to get the creaks out of their lockdown doors. The Dutch government’s National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) said those not in relationships should look to making arrangements with one other person during the coronavirus pandemic. The paired-up singletons are being advised to practice ‘safe sex’ by avoiding intimacy if either are suspected of having Covid-19. It comes after critics hit out at the lack of sex advice for those in relationships with themselves.

So there would be illegals not getting paid. Doesn't seem a particularly strong reason not to do it tbh.

Was just an example. I worked with a payroll consultant who is on the quango that advises the Government on pensions. It was him that told me NIC records are a total mess. Knowing that my own is wrong too, just proved it...

One way to stop the NHS being a political football is to de-brand it.

Instead of the NHS we will simply have hospitals, clinics, and doctors surgeries. Its what they do in New Zealand.

Aren't schools a pretty essential business?

Long absences from school will undoubtedly damage the development and future lives of children.

And "gammonati"? Really? Whatever you call them they are generally talking about the unions rather than the teachers and some teachers agree with them. The unions' demands for guaranteed safety eg for transport workers would result in the permanent closing of much of the economy.

I don't even know what place unions have in a modern society. They oppose every attempt to improve or modernise and are responsible for many of our industries going under over the last 40 odd years

Nothing programmed about my thinking, the wires are never really linked.

As for Despots who are the two leaders that have the highest death tolls? Here’s a clue.

Perhaps our scientists are worse than in other countries. Herd immunity then lockdown. Do they know what they're doing? Anyway, thankfully, last December we dodged the scruffy, humourless, unreconstructed Marxist bullet.

I could go on at some length on this drawing on some relevant personal experience but without diverting the topic further … it seems obvious to me  that we are not maximising the potential of young people as a whole with a system which positively discriminates in favour of those whose parents are rich and privileged over those whose parents are not.

The people who came up with the Herd Immunity theory was Cummings and BJ, Neil Ferguson showed common sense and managed to get them to abandon it because it would’ve caused far more people to die. As for the rest of the scientists, when Cummings takes a Google Executive along to SAGE meetings i would imagine it’s quite disconcerting.
The UK government had a training exercise four years ago and not only failed to implement it but have also ignored what’s worked in other countries. Even the right wing MSM are after them, PIERS MORGAN is criticising them ffs.
As for Corbyn he is as ill informed about Scotland as any Unionist, he might’ve been better at putting in place all these SOCIALIST schemes that have been put in place by borrowing record amounts of money to save businesses and jobs.

The herd immunity theory is well established over centuries. Chris Whitty and Jason Leitch both publicly supported this plan before Ferguson revealed his customary cataclysmic forecast. Given how wrong he was with his modelling on Foot & Mouth, SARS and Swine Flu , I don't think he's worth listening to tbh. The Swedes ran his modelling and ditched it. They've subsequently been vindicated.  Tory bashing is far easier than looking at the facts though.

Lots of Gammonites at the protests today, unsurprisingly.

David Samson, 50, a finance worker, who attended the protests told the Press Association news agency:

“I never thought I’d see in my generation the suppressing of civil rights over a fake virus. This is nothing compared to what’s coming.”

62-year-old Catharine Harvey, said she was defying the rules to highlight the “devastation this lockdown has caused”.

The shop owner said: “Developing countries will have no trade, no tourism. I have had to close my shop on Columbia Road flower market."
