One swallow does not a summer make (although it does make a satisfactory date), but the Covid case figures mentioned by NS today are a reduction from those a week ago, and the positivity rate is down from then too. More details when the data is officially released at 2pm.

Apparently there was talk of a Moscow variant earlier in the week. Now, that one will be a best seller!

New research suggesting one dose of the Oxford AZ or Pfizer vaccine will reduce by 75% your risk of catching Covid and ending up in hospital. 2 doses will make the risk virtually nil.

The fact that case numbers are as high as February but the deaths are very low double digits compared to the high triple digits in February backs this up.

Vaccine is working I'd say.

At that rate, if we are beginning to plateau (I know its just a hint in the data today) with still flat rates of hospitalisation and deaths, then the vaccines may well be starting to strangle this ******* virus. Bloody hope so, anyway.

Got a link to the research/article?

OI had my second Pfizer 14 days ago, heard a guy on the radio say he was due his same day, but he was much younger than I, so I made enquiries with the health Department, found I was registered but an error had been made, the girl resubmitted my registration, asked me when I could attend for second vaccine and I said anytime and had an appointment an hour later.

I'm not even old.  52.  I'm amazed they've belted through this in the time taken.  Surely most over 18s will be done by end of summer at this rate.

New research suggesting one dose of the Oxford AZ or Pfizer vaccine will reduce by 75% your risk of catching Covid and ending up in hospital. 2 doses will make the risk virtually nil.

Watch out tomorrow when Debbie downer aka NS will talk about the “ tartan “ variant due to the lads in London having a great time . Seen a few of the young teams snap chats and they are really having the time of their lives. Brilliant to see . Some forgot the price young people have paid in the last year or so from either the threats that they “ might kill their granny “ to losing out on life changing transitions such as starting university or the ones who got their exams all decked up too .

Should be the TA chant this year 😃

It used to be standard to come back up the road with a dose. :(

At that rate, if we are beginning to plateau (I know its just a hint in the data today) with still flat rates of hospitalisation and deaths, then the vaccines may well be starting to strangle this ******* virus. Bloody hope so, anyway.

Got a link to the research/article?

Yes, let's hope so Gizmo.

It was on the live BBC website feed earlier. Prof Finn I think had referred to it. Will try to find the link.

Red, this is the link to the Times article that I referred to the other day. It's behind a pay wall but hopefully the first paragraph details the pertinent info👍

Watching the news this morning and can’t believe Nicola sturgeon stood with a straight face and banned people travelling to Manchester.

What a total waste of time trying to ban people going anywhere in the uk.

Has she not seen London in last 48 hours?

Ha! Didn't hear that.

She's like a teacher who, upon losing control of her class, decides the best way is to try and shout louder than them and add more rules.

To be fair, if this place is an indicator, there are are a fair few man babies about so perhaps the exasperation is becoming harder to hide.

The only man-babies on here, Konnie my dear, are the ones await Ms Sturgeon's instructions on when to sit, stand, or leave their own homes.

If she's getting exasperated about the fact that people are living their, now post-pandemic, lives in a reasonable and, gosh, normal way, then it really ought to give her supporters pause for thought about what it is she and her merry band of eunuchs exactly want from their position of authority. However, the aforementioned man-babies aren't exactly renowned for the ability to do much beyond nod and shake their heads on the woman's command, like the good little 走狗 they are.

Oh my, that's some amount of misplaced smugness there sweetheart. :)

I believe you've quoted the wrong post, Konnie. No smugness here, just a round of truth bullets fired straight into the heart of the rotting authoritarian beast.

Said it before but some posters are going to have to go and get a life ina few months when this pandemic is hopefully over. Their post counts are going through the roof as they can see the end coming. I suppose they can resurrect the SNP bad thread to vent their spleen.

Those who are posting are the people who want to "get a life"; to get their own lives back and to start living, to enjoy the basic human rights to go where we want within the country and to travel abroad.

Banning people from leaving their own country was one of many unedifying features of communist eastern Europe up until 30 years ago.

Like today, some of the population became accustomed to sitting waiting for their next set of instructions from an authoritarian leader.
