I don't really want to get into a debate about lockdowns as it's obviously not a black or white issue.

From bbc article about Glasgow Queen Elizabeth Uni Hospital:

Dr Alan Whitelaw, who runs the department, says that while there might be fewer patients coming through his door, there are no longer any "easy wins".

"Those that are coming are the sick people," he says. "We are undoubtedly seeing the effects of people not seeking healthcare for six to 10 months.

"We are seeing disease that we wouldn't always see and we are seeing it further down the road.

"We are making more diagnoses that potentially would be made in primary care or outpatient clinics. On top of that we've got lots of Covid patients coming through the door.

"So it is those two things together that currently put the NHS under that significant pressure."

And not forgetting those suffering at home due to the lockdown . Parents struggling with children with or without challenging behaviours , ex addicts back on it again due to the stress of it all , people not seeking treatments as they are convinced the NHS is only opened to covid ( media or Govt hasn’t helped ) ,domestic abuse going to through the roof , children more at risk of abuse in the family home as they aren’t being monitored at school , children deprived of normal social interactions with other children et al. The list is endless

He reminds me a bit of Mike Pence. A bit of a lapdog, nods in the right places, doesn't seem to have his own opinion, and no-one is really sure what value he adds.

At the time of our last discussion the 'not the science scientists' were still predicting Covid deaths would be similar to an ordinary year for respiratory deaths. With 1850 announced yesterday what are they saying now?

What is Sturgeon doing, delegating to her deputy?? The only other leader with their own daily TV show - Kim Jong Un - would never delegate in that manner. 😂

Up early this morning so managed to get more of the data -

image.png.144037b42369f84e072768a085d7801b.png

These are the excess deaths in those locations this year after taking Covid deaths out. So this is the excess deaths from all other causes of death. In general it looks like people are dying at home from things they normally die of in a hospital or hospice. It is interesting that Care home deaths are still much higher even after removing covid deaths, not sure why that is, could be due to lockdown, not receiving the care required and the isolation. Also interesting the elsewhere deaths being up 28%?? Elsewhere is defined by - Elsewhere includes all places not covered above such as deaths on a motorway; at the beach; climbing a mountain; walking down the street; at the cinema; at a football match; while out shopping; or in someone else's home.

Also as you can see there have been about 1750 excess non covid deaths (assuming you accept the Covid deaths figures as roughly accurate) so there has not been a huge amount of deaths due to lockdown - yet!! That could well still be to come though.

As someone else will no doubt point out I am not an expert in any of this, however it does appear that the excess deaths at home are not the anti-lockdown smoking gun some on the internet think are (not accusing you BTW Enzo)

Yes, there are certainly some interesting and unexplained stats in there, Brian. Specifically around the "elsewhere" category and in care homes. Further details may emerge in time. Thanks for researching that.

Nucky watches the briefings so he can slag the SNP and the SG off on this thread. There's nothing sad about that at all, it's perfectly normal behaviour. 😁

The format of the Euros this time will make it a bigger challenge than if there had been a single host country like usual, and I can't see the Olympics going ahead with so many competitors from just about every country in the world. Japan were doing well but seem to have had their problems recently too.

There may be some matches at the Euros where fans can attend but the Olympics will be a challenge and a half to host.

Hopefully by August we will have supporters getting a chance to attend football matches but I'm not sure.

The journalists appear to have changed their tack today.

Yesterday it was all about Scotland has access to 435k vaccines, why aren't they in peoples arms?  Until folk started to cotton on that 200k or so had only been made available to order and you can't have released on a Monday, can't in everyones arms on a Tuesday.

Today it was Scotland has access to 600k, where are they in the supply chain?

They are slowly cottoning on that this isn't just a release/whack into arms process.

However, for some reason the SG aren't able to articulate something so simple, or even admit that they are building up supplies just now to support the mass vaccination groups.   Which is very worrying.

If they keep the vaccination to a trickle up here then Nicola can try and keep us in lockdown for far longer, or at least have a chance to blame westminster when furlough runs out because England is vaccinated up.

It really is endless, a few more and it is worth noting that although some sound trivial they really are quite important in the grand scheme of things and of course as a person's civil rights:

No gap year for young adults

Men can't meet women for dates and ultimately sex (and what comes from sex)

Men can't meet men for dates and sex, women can't meet women for dates and sex.  This affects people as people need companionship, sex and of course fun

Terminal cancer patients have to sit and rot until their time is over (they should be ticking off bucket lists)

Children being brought up thinking masks and lockdown is the 'norm' - this has to have a psychological affect down the line - it has to

Children building up no antibody immunity as they are effectively in incubation right now

IVF treatment delayed for over a year (some women simply do not have this year to give up)

Then of course their are the well documented, small business closures.

What is very abundantly clear is the governmment do not give the slightest **** about small business or mental health.  The only thing factored into lockdown and restriction decisions is coronavirus.

I just think that a government taking the biggest decision since 1939, a decision that affects each and everyone of us and is devastating to many, may at least have drawn up a 'pros' and 'cons' list before doing it.  Not even worrth arguing as it is so obvious that all they did was have a 'pro' column with one thing in it.

Just now, Brian Dundas said:

Ok, I was just unsure as the relevance of the 1939 reference to Iran or Pakistan's lockdown decision.

All of UK ones obviously

Good addition Redj.

Appreciate the time & effort for providing the info.

It's good to see East getting figures going in right direction, just can't wait to get out of LA area for some golf!
